2 nights at Glacier Bay
It’s a National Park Lodge so it’s basic, as you would expect. It was clean, comfortable and in a location that is remarkable. We stayed here for two nights. After the first night staff came by and asked if we needed anything. How often does that happen in a “high end” hotel?

Backcountry access to kayak trips w camping, leave from nearby (1/4-mile) dock for day cruise boat. Guiding services for Glacier Bay available (AMG has interesting multi-days trips). Hotel service and food are a solid 5/10.

The setting is beautiful - and that's the best thing about this property. They do provide a shuttle from the Gustavus airport (how we arrived), but you need to make a reservation (we weren't told this during any of our communications with the property). We were told that "the bus won't leave until all names on the reservation list are checked". The driver left when the bus was full - no names were checked (though I'm sure no one was left behind). Check-in was a bit chaotic. A reception staff member came out to meet the shuttle, gave a brief orientation then handed out room keys. We had to then wait in another line to make a dinner reservation for that evening - the lodge is the only dining option (tried to make one over the phone a couple days earlier but the staff member couldn't get to the reservation book during our call). Nice enough room - comfortable beds, hot water in the shower, toiletries, etc. Room a little cramped - but you're not there to spend time in the room. However, bathroom ceiling had mold and dirt and hair on it! Otherwise room was clean. No wifi in rooms, only lodge - again, you're not here to be connected. Enjoyed a walk along the beach trail before dinner. Dinner - short-staffed dining room (as was everywhere in Alaska this summer), limited menu, pricey for the quality, out of many items on the drink menu (only one beer type available and they would not serve drinks to people before dinner). Staff did the best they could. Breakfast buffet was decent.

Bring food with you!
We heard that the lodge had just opened a few days earlier and that they didn't have enough staff, which could be the reason it was not so great, but we did enjoy the area and location, which made up for it. The room was fine, but the food options were grim. The breakfast was very expensive and less than enjoyable. Then the restaurant was closed until dinner time with no options to buy any food or even get coffee in the lodge. They did have a few snacks at the gift store. If you are checked out of the lodge just waiting for the late-afternoon transfer to the airport, it's advisable to bring some food/drinks from Juneau or wherever.

HOTEL BUS LATE TO AIRPORT WE MISSED OUR FLIGHT!
AND THEY WOULD NOT SO MUCH AS CREDIT US FOR ONE NIGHT'S STAY. The Aramark (who manage the lodge) bus service drug their feet getting (slow to leave, many stops) to the airport and we were denied boarding on the last (only?) flight of the day by Alaska Airlines who repeatedly said they told the lodge to get the bus their on time. As a result we spent $420 for a puddle jumper to Junuea. The hotel gen manager "Jeff" would not so much as offer us a credit for our hotel stay. Every time I called (6 times) he kept saying he was seeking credit from Alaska Airlines before he could credit us, where it was clearly the hotel's fault for not getting us to the airport on time. VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THEIR MANAGEMENT!

Very close to the beach. Beautiful surroundings. comfortable interiors. Did not have any soap in our room. When called the front desk " I think we ran out" was the response.

Good for a two days stay if joining the Boat tour and taking the Alaskan Marine Highway between Juneau and Gustavus.

Great place to do Glacier Bay
I researched a number of Inns and Lodges in Gustavus, Alaska. All had pluses and minuses. Glacier Bay Lodge overlooks Bartlett Cove so the scenery has a quiet beauty. You can put your feet up on the deck and snack or have an afternoon beverage and take in the quiet and beauty of the place. The food selections are relatively limited but well presented and very tasty. The access to the trails in the forests around the lodge made it a great opportunity for a spur of the moment walk or adventure hike. There are hourly shuttles (free) into Gustavus. There are shuttles (free) to and from the airport and Gustavus pier. The rooms are clean and comfortable and are scattered on boardwalks adjacent to the Lodge building. The rooms are comfortable and clean. There is no TV or cell service (a blessing) and the wifi is slow and takes on the relaxed atmosphere of the life at Glacier Bay. Our 4 nioght 5 day stay was a treasure to be remembered

It's a very rustic hotel
In Gustavus there isn't much of a choice for lodging. If you are looking for wilderness, remoteness and to unconnect from the outside world then this is the place for you. They have very limited wireless and no tv's in the room. Your cell phone won't work there at all.

Great Setting
The location can not be beat. They need to improve their internet connection. Everyone sits in the lobby and tries to get on all at once. Connection drops on a regular basis. If you need a stable connection you may need to look elsewhere.
