Kowloon Park

Kowloon Park
Once the site of a British military base, today this green oasis is the perfect escape from the bustle and busyness of the city.

When you’ve seen enough concrete and fancy a change of scene, head to the green and serene Kowloon Park. Once belonging to the military, it was given to the public in the 1970s and its extensive redevelopment was funded by the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club. Both locals and tourists head here to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. The park is located near the vibrant and busy Victoria Harbour, making it one of the city’s most popular parks. With gardens and walkways covering an expansive 13 hectares, Kowloon Park’s impressive size is unique in a city where space is in such short supply. There is also a large plaza which plays host to outdoor concerts and events.Because of Kowloon Park’s central location, a visit to the park is perfect for breaking up a busy day of sightseeing. Bring your camera and admire the lovely rose garden or the traditional Chinese garden, with its lotus pond and small rock waterfalls. The Sculpture Walk displays works by local and international sculptors, and features both permanent and temporary exhibitions. A good time to visit Kowloon Park is on a Sunday, when kung fu and lion dance performances are held. The park is home to an impressive sports centre and swimming pool complex. With four heated pools it often plays host to international swimming events. The outdoor swimming pools are open during the summer months only, and opening times and price information can be found on the Leisure and Cultural Services Department website. The park is perfect for families, and young children will especially enjoy the playground, football field and maze garden. The best way to get to Kowloon Park is on the metro – get off at Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station and take Exit A1.
