The largest church in Erding, St. Johann’s Parish Church, is located in the old town. This brick building dating from the 14th century stands out especially for its bell tower. It’s worth climbing the 163 steps to the top of the 35-metre-high tower. From here you have a tremendous view over the rooftops of Erding and its surroundings. On a clear day you can even see as far as Munich. Have a rest during your city trip to Erding and enjoy watching the hustle and bustle of the town in one of the countless beer gardens or coffee shops. It’s also worth taking a short trip to see the Frauenkircherl (Church of Our Lady). This small building located in the Schrannenplatz is a popular spot today for art exhibitions and concerts. The late-Gothic-style church was built in 1390, but after a big fire in the 1970s it was revamped into an event venue.
The privately owned Erdinger Weißbräu brewery is nestled in north-east Erding. It has been there since 1886 and it is the largest Weißbier brewery in the world. During a city trip to Erding, visitors can watch over the master brewer’s shoulder and see how Erdinger Weißbräu is brewed today on a brewery tour. The tour also explains the exact production process from the raw ingredients to shipping all over the world, as well as showing you the extremely modern bottle filling technique. At the end, you can enjoy an authentic Bavarian snack of veal sausage and pretzels, washed down, of course, with a Weißbier in the visitors’ centre.
If you wish to leave everyday life behind you for a few hours during your city trip in Erding, you can visit Erding thermal spa, just west of the old town. It is the largest thermal spa in Europe. Discover the innumerable thermal pools and spacious sauna facility, and after sweating it out, cool off under a rain shower or in the mineral springs in the extraordinary stone grotto. The main attraction in the Erding thermal spa is the waterslide park, “Galaxy”. There are 20 slides of different sizes under a 25-metre-high metal dome. You will also find the longest tube slide in Europe here at 360-metres long.
