Nice smalll clean hotel. Basic but has what you need. Very quiet considering location. Just missing a few small things like ice buckets and a clock in the room. But great value for the $$. Location is great, very clean and staff is friendly and helpful. Wonderful deli next door which is open 24hrs.

Solo nos quedamos 1 noche, el personal del lobby es exageradamente amable, las 3 personas distintas que nos atendieron fueron geniales, nos recomendaron restaurantes muy buenos y puedes dejar las maletas sin problema después de hacer check out, la ubicación es excelente, 2 minutos caminando de times square, grand central, Empire State, etc Es muy estilo Nueva York, el único pero que pondría sería que en si el edificio y muebles en general se notan ya deteriorados, si me volvería a hospedar aquí.

Super cute hotel with great character! I was also impressed that it was pretty quiet and peaceful inside the hotel considering its in the middle of Times Square. Also reasonably priced compared to other hotels nearby & very kind staff. Also very clean.. One funny thing we noticed: there seemed to be no air conditioning in our room. Unless they add or remove window AC units (not sure if they do), it could be hot in the middle of summer. Otherwise, I’d highly recommend them for the other seasons or if you don’t mind having no AC. You just can’t beat the location!

Absolutely adorable family run hotel. It was a block from times square and right off Broadway. Would book here a million times over. Great dining options located right beside hotel. Can't wait to go back!!!

This old historic hotel is super clean and the staff are very friendly/helpful. This is the second oldest hotel still in operation in NYC--so do not expect modern. No ice machine. No individual control of temperature in rooms. Our stay was great. Beds are very comfortable. Temperature was comfortable for us. Very convenient to Times Square/theaters. I would definitely stay again.

Old and basic.firstvroom was not clean and musty. The elevator was filthy. The first time I got in the lights were out. And a gentleman got in with me. It was frightening. Not safe not worth the money. If you are a single female, go anywhere else

The hotel was clean and well located. I liked that it was on a bit quieter of a street. It is an old property and showing it's age. The walls are paper thin and ear plugs are a must if you don't want to hear the conversations of the rooms next door. My biggest complaint is that the beds were awful. The mattresses were old and creaky. Every time you moved they squeaked and they were very hard. We had two rooms ( one for us and one for our kids) the kids bed was nice and soft. I politely asked for a new room and was given the opportunity to check out several rooms until I found a bed that wasn't completely awful. It wasn't great but I realized it was not going to get any better. I could tell the gentleman at the desk was super annoyed with me. Most of the staff at the desk were helpful and friendly ( Joey was great) and even though the hotel and finishings were old and worn out the cleaning staff do a good job cleaning. Toiletries were very cheap and I would recommend you bring your own. Only 2 towels, face cloths and face towels and they are thin. I did ask for more for the cleaners and they were happy to provide. If you are looking for budget friendly, clean and well located with absolutely no frills this place will suit you fine. There is a little shop right next store that sells coffee and food so you will be set. If you want a nice bed, decent toiletries, coffee in your room or lobby and a fresher look and appearance then I would not stay here.

This hotel located in a really convenient location only a few minutes walk to Times square and subways. Walgreens is right across the street opening 24/7 for your needs. The downside is its an old building with squeaking noise from your beds and closing doors. Also rooms has thin walls which you can hear anything next door. Overall, the price is good for traveling on a budget and if you spend most of the time outside.

I booked St James primarily for the location. We were right by the theater District and Times Square but not too close. Easy to get in and out of. We felt very safe. It is an older historic property and does not have the amenities of Hotel but there is character. Joey at the front desk was delightful and very helpful. Only issue we had was leaving and trying to bring our heavy bags down the elevator. Housekeeping was throwing bags of laundry in the elevator which was extremely slow to begin with. We were unable to get on and ended up lugging our bags down the narrow steps – not a dealbreaker but kind of a pain in the ass. Bathroom was a weird layout with the toilet being on an elevated platform that made it smaller. However, I would consider staying here again because of location and safety factor. Clean enough. I had no intention of spending a lot of time in the room anyway.

The renovated room was clean, fresh and spacious by New York City standards. My complaints are the noise coming from a cube shaped opening which our windows looked over, a drunk was vomiting out a window nearby and the noise was echoing all night long. Also the heat is not adjustable in the room. And no food or drink amenities. Everything else was good.

There was no railing at the entrance to hold on to and the doors opened outwards. I witnessed a kid almost being thrown off the stair he was standing on as someone opened the door from inside. If the door had been opened more quickly, he wouldn't have had time to react. I need a rail to hold on to go up stairs safely. I know this is a city thing, not to install a rail, but it is unsafe nonetheless.

I've stayed in many hotels in my travels. This one was not a favorite. There are no amenities at all...not even coffee and /water available. These are the most basic of amenities that I expect in a hotel, no matter the cost.

The room, especially the bathroom was a little small. However, it's normal for NYC. It would be better if there was a little fridge. The location is perfect. It's very close to Times Square, dining, shopping and transportation. The room was very clean. The staff is very friendly. We enjoyed our stay. We definitely will back to the hotel.

Where to begin? First off please keep looking and DO NOT stay here. Walking into the lobby the only pleasant moment was talking to Joey. THE ONLY worker who was friendly and approachable. Hotel gives dinghy haunted vibes. There was literally a hole on the wall in which you could see the frame of the building. The hallways to the room with wall paper that is old. The walls need paint and the molding paint or something that doesn’t scream ghost house. Now the room.. ohhh boy. Only one nightstand, as you read it. Only one. The few functioning furniture scratched and old. There was a radiator that every so often will make a noise like a kettle boiling water and it was loud! Mind you it was sitting on a little piece of wood. Bed and pillows subpar. The bathroom for the life of me… my dog could have done a better job applying caulk. Don’t expect to condition your hair because it’s 2-1 shampoo. And don’t bother to ask the night concierge, he will conditioner shame you saying but “2-1 is the same”. But I understand he was bald, I don’t expect him to understand my long hair needs. And to top it all off, you need to wait 25 minutes for the water to warm. All and all the worst stay I’ve ever been!! Will not come back, nor recommend. Please shut it down and remodel.

This property did not have air conditioning. That wasnt told in the amenities part. It was very hot and also construction going that i wasnt informed of either. The sink leaked and the hot water was iffy. I wont opt for a cheaper stay ever again. But it served its purpose. We were there to sleep.

Great basic room to stay in while in New York. Close to a subway station and within walking distance of almost all of our tourist-y destinations. Some parts were a bit faded but it seemed like they were working on the hotel so maybe it'll continue to improve.

This is an older hotel but it has retained its charm. We were allowed to check in early for a $25 fee and ended up in a king bed room. It was an interior room so it was quieter. No carpeting- big plus for me! The staff was great and allowed us to stow our luggage when we checked out. Great location !! Would like to come back one day soon. Thanks Team!
