Where to stay in Rayong Province?

About Rayong Thailand

As the second most populous city in northeast Thailand's Issan region, Nakhon Ratchasima has long been a major gateway to the nearby Khao Yai National Park, the country's first, and other popular tourist destinations. However, this provincial capital also known as Korat has many historic temples and other hidden attractions. The Thao Suranaree statue at the corner of Chumphon and Ratchadamnoen roads is the easiest place to begin navigating Nakhon Ratchasima.

Don’t Miss

Locals frequently offer flowers and incense to the Thao Suranaree statue in the middle of Nakhon Ratchasima's centrally located pedestrianised municipal area. Visitors must cross a small moat before reaching the municipal area's north end.

The nearby Thao Suranaree Bravery Light and Sound Performance Building closely resembles part of Nakhon Ratchasima's ancient city wall. This building's interior is filled with old city photographs and miniature models depicting Thao Suranaree's life. Another museum, the Maha Weerawong Museum, contains ancient Buddha statues as well as chairs which Thai royal family members have sat on during their stays in the city.

Visitors can feed bananas to the elephants, zebras, giraffes, and other exotic animals on display in their natural habitats at the Korat Zoo, one of Thailand's largest. Zoo visitors can also enter the Korat Zoo Lagoon water park free of charge. Relaxing beneath some of Thailand's tallest banyan trees along the Moon River's banks or strolling under the shady trees around Lam Takhong Dam is an ideal way to end a day in Nakhon Ratchasima.

Restaurants and Bars

Eating on a budget is easy to do in Nakhon Ratchasima. Rice with pork or chicken, pad Thai, and noodle soup are the traditional dishes found on most local restaurant menus. Some restaurants show cooked red meat strips and chickens in display cabinets. Most Nakhon Ratchasima bars and clubs are located on Changphuak Road, a street at the city's north end.

Shopping

Klang Plaza, Nakhon Ratchasima's largest department store, can be seen from virtually every corner of the city. A shopping centre called simply the Mall features bargain clothing stalls and small independent shops on its lower levels, and more upscale shops on its upper levels. Food is the primary item sold at the Mae Kim Heng indoor market. Night Bazaar 1 and Wat Boon Night Bazaar are Nakhon Ratchasima's two major night markets.
