For a JW, you wouldn't think the place would be in such bad condition. The pool area alone had so much chipping and falling off paint and structural defects. Rooms were basic and stuffy. No balconies here so don't spend $ on an ocean view. I stayed next door one night at the Windsor Califironia and it was far better. As a Marriott Bonvoy member for decades this one sucks.

Rooms could do with updating. Noise from the lobby can be heard from the rooms. Staff were excellent and service was great. The location is also great.
Amazing location, very comfortable rooms and really amazing, friendly and professional staff! Wasn’t even aware when i booked that there was a chair and towel service right across in Copacabana beach. Amazing views from rooftop and since it was winter and a bit chilly the heated outdoor pool was excellent. Highly recommended.

Would stay here again.
First I have to say that I would definitely stay here again. I had a wonderful stay and all the staff was incredibly nice and helpful.
That being said, I have to say I do agree with other reviewers regarding the age of the hotel It does feel old and dated. A refresh is much needed. Although the staff is amazing, because of its age, it does not feel like a JW Marriott.
And I would like to recommend, that if possible, stay in an ocean view room. I stayed in one the "inside" view rooms and it does feel a little claustrophobic and dark... The view is to other rooms and the hallways. And no natural light comes in...
The Rooftop needs a little love and tenderness, but it is a very nice place to take in the view of Copacabana and have a drink at the end of the day. I really enjoyed being beachfront.

Fairmont is much much better hotle with similar price point!
The carpets in the room are in need of steam cleaning😲
The towels are severely worn and in need of replacement😬
When a customer arrives from a intl flt✈️ please don't nickel and dime 💵 them when rooms are available by charging early check in fees😡 The customer pays you $250-$350 per night for a stay😎
Great stay at the JW Marriot Rio. It was my fiancés birthday and they did everything to accommodate us and make the weekend special. Loved the pool bar upstairs and great location. Will definitely come back!
The staff were all well trained and accommodating...as well as conversant in English.
WARNING: DO NOT USE THE ATM IN THE HOTEL.
The conversion rate is criminal and the hotel
should be ashamed to have a vendor that
abuses their guests so badly.

A really great location on Copacabana Beach. The hotel is looking a little dated but the facilities were very good and perhaps on the lower end of 5 star quality.
The customer service from the front desk was exceptional throughout being both friendly and helpful. Of notable mention is Yasmin on front desk who was fantastic and even arranged for a surprise treat to celebrate our honeymoon.
Highly recommended.

3 stars service for a 5 star Hotel.
Below expectation and standard for a JW Marriott property especially the breakfast (options were very limited...they served me frozen salmon (lox) and messed up my egg benedict- took the kitchen 3 tries to get it right. Beach chair/towel service was slow (took the attendant close to 30 minutes to set up a beach chair/umbrella and towel).
Nice location, close to many restaurants in Zona Sul of Rio, and landmarks such as Sugar Loaf, Corcovado, Forte de Copacabana. Great hotel, clean, nice staff, and good food. Definitely recommend and will come back.
