Singapore Zoo

Singapore Zoo featuring zoo animals and dangerous animals
Breakfast with primates, ride elephants and feed giraffes in the world's best rainforest zoo.

Singapore Zoo has come a long way since being built in 1973. Today, it boasts almost 3,000 animals, which live in lovingly-replicated environments. The zoo is recognised as one of the most forward-thinking and respected in the world. Adults and children alike can happily spend an entire day seeing all there is to see here.

Visiting hours start early at Singapore Zoo. One of the flagship events is the Jungle Breakfast with Wildlife. Tuck into tropical fruits and juices as a family of orangutans perches nearby and eats its own breakfast. This is just one of many interactive experiences at the zoo. You can also watch sea lions perform tricks, take a ride on an elephant and feed giraffes. Marvel at the Rainforest Fights Back Show, in which creatures perform alongside human actors and attempt to 'save' their natural habitat from destruction. You can even volunteer to be in the show.

Singapore Zoo is a sizeable attraction. It is divided into various zones, including Frozen Tundra, Wild Africa, Fragile Forest, Australian Outback and Primate Kingdom. Take a tram or boat tour to find your bearings. Also, make sure that you visit the most popular of the zoo's inhabitants, including the white tigers, pygmy hippos, polar bears and penguins.

Singapore puts on plenty of activities for younger visitors. In Kidzworld, children can learn about animals and their environments, then let off steam at the wet play area and on the Wild Animal Carousel.

Eat at one of the zoo's excellent restaurants, where traditional nasi lemak and laksa are available alongside pizza and ice cream. Buy a soft toy of your favourite animal from the gift shop to remind you of your day out.

Singapore Zoo is about 30 minutes from downtown Singapore by car. Parking is available at the zoo, and there's a charge for this. Those arriving by public transport can get here using the North-South MRT line, which has a connecting bus to the attraction. Singapore Zoo is open daily. The entrance fee is mid-range.

The zoo is made up of four separate parks with separate entrance fees. You can buy combined ticket. Would suggest you only tackle two of them on one day. We did main zoo and river safari (where the pandas are). Spent about six hours in total, didn’t see everything even then. So hot in May, lots of animals hiding away. We felt like doing the same! Panda enclosure very nice and cool - could have hung out with them all afternoon!
