Smoking in a no/smoking room / floor!
I stayed at Kempinski Shanghai in October 2023 and had also previously stayed in Kempinski Xiamen. My recent stay was a disappointment. I booked 3 rooms; 2 King bed and 1 Twin for 1 pax (Guest, Kho Chuan Seng). My room was on a non smoking floor but the instant I opened my room door, smelled of cigarette smoke and there was an ashtray on the table next to a no-smoking sign!!!

This hotel is beautiful, but has a service environment I can best describe as hostile. Rules are plentiful and enforced with vigour. Much of this, I should say, relates to travelling with children. We booked an executive floor room. Only after arrival did we learn that children are not allowed in the executive lounge free of charge (unlike any other executive/club hotel we have ever stayed). At the swimming pool, the only motion allowed is in a single direction. Swimming across the pool is forbidden and will result in verbal redress from staff. The idea of children playing and enjoying the water is foreign here. After raising some of these issues with the hotel, they did offer some accommodations - allowing our kids in the lounge for an extra night, for example. But the general hotel environment was unwelcoming, and this seemed to be institutional, not at all a question of individual staff.

OK hotel, service could be improved a lot though.
Check in and concierge service were really good, but service at breakfast and lounge bar was mediocre and disappointing for a 5 star hotel. When it gets busy, breakfast staff get really flustered with little organisation of which tables have been allocated, then tables are cleared whilst you queue at the different stations getting your food. The cocktails at the lobby bar are also not really recommended - they didn't seem to know how to make the basic cocktails. Overall a hotel that has a good reputation but the service does not quite live up to it.

Nice hotel in good location. You just never disappointed with German hotel management. The breakfast buffet is amazing! Too many good things to eat. The manager Mr. Li of the restaurant is very observant. My 8 years old daughter had dry throat, he served her a glass of warm lemon water right away...... we really appreciated for his service.

Fabulous stay!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Kempinski while visiting Xiamen with family. The rooms are spacious and very clean, love the details too. Staff are professional and were very helpful from the moment we arrived. Breakfast buffet was excellent with a huge variety of eastern / western options and local delights. Kids friendly hotel. We’d definitely stay again.

I checked in at midnight and the reception was not friendly. The executive lounge is supposed to open until 11pm but when I went there at 9:30. There is only coffee and soft drinks left. They are busy packing the food away.

Just a one night stay in the hotel as was very impressed. We had a great room with a fantastic view over the river. A great bar area in the foyer was very relaxing with friendly staff. The bed in the room was very comfortable and a spacious room, unfortunely we only had a short stay but would come back again

Fine building. Good trips arranged. Check in took over half and hour because they did not have the rooms at 4.30pm and we had to wait a further half hour to get in. Lounge staff very ill at ease with what drink they have etc.

I was told this was a premier hotel. Far from the truth. Unfortunately the property is run down and aging poorly. Not maintained very well. The reception people were very nice and helpful and the gentleman at the Paulander was very nice. Club level employees were terrible. If your fluent in Chinese your experience would probably be somewhat acceptable.

Excellent hotel for tourist and business travel
It is a good hotel- with very spacious room, well designed and decorated. Give a sense of elegance- similar to St Regis or Four Seasons, without the price. Bathroom is also spacious. The breakfast was excellent- one of the better ones I had in China, and offer plenty of Western choices as well as local choices. I would say the only negative area would be its location- it is not located to anywhere of interest in walking distance, and not much restaurant choices around the neighborhood. However, taxi is very easy to get, and you can always take a 10-15 minutes cab ride to nearby train station.

All staff were SO engaged, attentive, helpful, generous with their time, caring. Property was amazing. View spectacular. Rooms really nice. My wife loved the tub. Great location in the city. Walk along the lake is so nice. Gym is good. Pool not inviting. Need a place for sunbathing, lounge chairs. Got stuck in elevator...doors wouldn't open...couldn't get down to first floor...had to go to second floor and walk down,

Hotel Is very nice. Views and location great. Staff is super. The only thing I did not like was the Resturant/Bar attached to hotel. Was suppose to be German Theme. But was far from it. No bar for someone to just have a drink. Was dark and set for storage. Only offered 2 beers. Was not that warm or inviting for a single person traveling.

Great stay for New Year eve in Xiamen
The hotel is located in the mid of Xiamen city good place to walk around or connect to other area of Xiamen. The German bar downstair is probably one of the great spot to stay for New Year eve in Xiamen for foreigners. The room is big and comes with a big bathroom which I really like. Can't complain about the service with free room upgrade! very friendly front deck service while check-in and check-out. Overall, it's totally worthy to spend one night here!

regular room and also a grand deluxe suite. Deluxe suite was nice layout and size but was tatty and old , needs refurbishing badly. I expected more for the price. Had to call in engineering 3 separate times to fix power outages as well. Generally OK though , We ( my company ) still use the hotel a lot for guests
