Description

Discover Cusco, the historic capital of the Inca Empire, and the cloud-covered citadel of Machu Picchu on this comprehensive multi-day excursion. Get up close to relics, monuments, and archaeological sites as you explore places like the Sacred Valley, Temple of the Moon, and the salt mines of Maras.

Day 1: Arrival in Cusco, Inca Museum & Coricancha Temple
A friendly driver picks you up from the airport and drops you at your hotel where you can rest and adjust to the altitude. Then, head to the Inca Museum and surround yourself with thousands of ancient artefacts. Visit the Coricancha Temple to walk among the ruins of the Inca Empire and see walls that were once plated in gold.

Day 2: Saksaywaman, Temple of the Moon & Town of Machu Picchu
Start your day with a trip to Saksaywaman and walk along the ramparts of this impressive stone fortress. Next, listen as your guide explains the spiritual connection between the Temple of the Moon and the lunar goddess. After exploring the fascinating archaeological sites, head to the town of Machu Picchu and settle in for the night.

Day 3: Machu Picchu
Before daybreak, head up to the ancient citadel of Machu Picchu. As the sun rises on this marvellous UNESCO World Heritage Site, walk among the terraces and temples of what is believed to be a 15th-century king's estate. If you want to see even more, take a challenging hike up steep trails to the peak of Huyana Picchu and witness the Sacred Valley laid out before you.

Day 4: Machu Picchu, Ollantaytambo, Moray & Salt Mines of Maras
Leave the wonder of Machu Picchu behind and begin the day in the lively town of Ollantaytambo. Then, head to Moray to see fascinating concentric-ringed terraces that were once home to Inca crops. After seeing the agriculture, visit the place where the Incas found the perfect preservative for their food, the salt mines of Maras. Experience the bustle of this town, which has been active in the salt trade since time immemorial.

Day 5: Chinchero, Sacred Valley & Cusco
Chinchero, the mythical birthplace of the rainbow, is your first stop. Once home to the king Inka Túpac, this town offers spectacular views of the snow-capped peaks and relics of the Sacred Valley. Try your hand at weaving as you learn all about Andean textiles from both modern and ancient times. After getting your fill of culture, end your day back in Cusco.

Day 6: Departure from Cusco
The itinerary for the last day is completely up to you. You are welcome to relax at your hotel, but you may also go on a walking tour of the city. Begin at Plaza de Armas, the city's main square, which is home to an impressive cathedral and colonial houses. Wind through town to see impressive monuments and thriving markets before you are dropped back at the airport.
