What you can expect

Join NY See Tours for an extraordinary journey through the history of the Manhattan Project, where you'll uncover the city's surprising atomic history. This tour offers a chance to visit the birthplace of Dr. Oppenheimer, renowned as the “Father of the Atomic Bomb,” and explores the diverse sites where the groundbreaking Manhattan Project began.

The Manhattan Project, the monumental endeavour that led to the creation of the atomic bomb, commenced in Lower Manhattan around mid-June 1942 when General Leslie Groves established its initial office. The same year, Dr. Oppenheimer assumed the project's scientific director role. Working alongside a brilliant team of scientists and engineers, he oversaw the construction and testing of the world's first atomic bomb at Los Alamos.

The successful test of the nuclear bomb took place in the New Mexico desert on July 16, 1945.

The Manhattan Project tour offers insight into the immense scale of the Manhattan Project and provides a glimpse into the life of Robert Oppenheimer. Explore some original project sites and visit Oppenheimer's Riverside Drive building to understand this momentous event that reshaped history.

In addition to delving into the Manhattan Project, the tour treats you to a scenic walk through a part of Manhattan's Upper West Side, encompassing Riverside Drive and Columbia University. This area has retained much of its original charm over the past century, adding charm and appeal to your remarkable journey.
