“very friendly family run hotel”
each time we have stayed at the van belle we have always had a great stay ideal location quite close to the centre only 15 mins walk, breakfast is both plentiful and good quality the rooms are a decent size and is also the bathrooms the staff are polite and helpful.
“Old but clean, a good bargain and free internet.”
This bargain-priced hotel is old and worn, but has comfortable, clean, renovated rooms. Located in a working-class Turkish residential neighborhood with lots of shops, kids running around. Friendly staff, speaks English. They happily picked me up from the train station. Free wireless internet, signal is strong in lobby, weak in some rooms. Breakfast is fine.
“Nice Place”
Staff was superb. Off street parking available as was wi-fi (small fee for each). Room was European but adequate. Free shuttle service to town center was appreciated. We felt safe here.
“Much more impressed than thought would be!”
After reading the reviews i was slightly worried about this hotel and the surrounding area however was only booking one night. I found the area to be perfectly fine, i was travelling on my own with a three year old and i felt perfectly safe walking around the area when i went out to look for food. Its only a short walk or metro ride to central brussels, the hotel room was bigger than i had expected and pretty comfortable, the breakfast was ok, plenty of food, made good start to day. If i was visiting Brussels again i'd return as they offered everything i needed and there was a good playground just down the road
“Good hotel in poor neighborhood”
The hotel is very clean and set up well. The staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel has been there for a century, but the neighborhood has changed and it is now a poor ethnic neighborhood. We felt uncomfortable to go out and eat in the neighborhood. The hotel does have a restaurant which we did not try. They also provide a good and extensive breakfast. The hotel has a wonderful complementary shuttle service which will take you to the city center at several times during the evening. They also have a number of later pick up times to get you back to the hotel. In the city center are wonderful restuarants. In the daytime it is a safe and easy walk to the city center. They will also pick you up or take you to the train station as they are close to the Midi station. They do not have a shuttle to the airport. We did have an unusual amount of street noise on a Friday
“Nice, clean hotel”
The hotel was nice and clean. Shuttle to city center in the evenings was convenient and free. Staff is not very friendly and was not helpful in providing information on tours, bus routes, etc. Shuttle pick up form the train terminal is free. Overall, good hotel to stay in, just wish the personnel were friendlier.
“Didn't like the surrounding but the Hotel itself was not Bad”
The room was clean but the equipment was a bit old, There warming system in the room wasn't working quite good, Internet speed was surprisingly good, Hotel staff was nice and friendly and most importantly they all had good knowledge of English as I couldn't speak French nor Dutch, The location of the hotel is some kind of crowded and most of the shop owners and people in that area are Arabs, overall its a very great budget hotel to stay for one or two nights but if you're going to spend more money on your hotel then there are far more better choices to pick from.
“Good value for money, would stay there again, a good walk to city centre”
Although our first impressions of the general area were "a little tired" and the exterior of the hotel could do with a lick of paint, we were pleasantly surprised by the comfortable relaxing interior, and by the helpfulness and friendliness of all staff we met. The bed was very comfortable and the room clean. There were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room which we would have used if present. A large room safe was provided free of charge. The buffet style breakfast had a large array of good quality food and gave us a good start to the day. The hotel provided an evening meal with several options including vegetarian, and was very good, although the portion sizes meant that you needed three courses. The hotel was just outside the western city ringroad with several shops, mini supermarkets and some smaller restaurants nearby. A ten to fifteen minute walk to the city centre gave us an enormous choice of good quality restauants, as well as hundreds of chocolate shops! We would definitely stay at this hotel again.
“Not as good the photos but better than the reviews”
As I have read in other reviews the hotel is not in the nicest area but I found it to be not as bad as I had feared. The place is clean yet dated and for a single room that I had was surprisingly large. The main problem was that the staff were extremely unhelpful. For example not volunteering me information such as requiring to book the bus back to the station. If you're looking to stay somewhere comfortable for a short time and is cheap, while close to the south station, this is adequate. If you're looking for a relaxing week stay this is not it.
“Missing item in the hotel.”
My friend and I had a very good time in the hotel. The only useful thing missing in the breakfast room was tray. As a buffet breakfast, trays are needed by customers to take their breakfast to their various seats. This will reduce the number of times people have to be wandering about in the breakfast room and thus prevent any accident whatsoever (such as spillage of food on the floor). I will be pleased to see this change when next I stay in this hotel.
