Conwy

Travel Guide
Conwy Castle which includes heritage elements, a castle and a bridge
Waleshas many market towns, but you’ll be stuck to find any that compare to Conwy. The immense fortress built here by Edward I of England back in the 13thCentury is probably the best-preserved medieval structure in all of Wales. Locatedon the NorthWales coast, this medieval town is literally one of a kind.

Theancient imposing battlements of ConwyCastle and its town walls are a particularly treat for history lovers.Nevertheless, backdropped by the extraordinary SnowdoniaNational Park and the crashing sea beyond, a visit to Conwywill make a memorable stay for anybody who visits the town.

ConwyCastle and Town Walls

Teeteringon a craggy outcrop of solid rock, Conwy Castle isa magnificent feat of medieval engineering. It consists of two giganticentranceways and eight towers, as well as nearly a mile’s worth of imposing blackwall that encircles the town. While today the castle is a tourist attractionoffering unbeatable views across the coast, it’s not difficult to imagine Conwyas it must have appeared in its early history.

TheSmallest House in Britain

Fromone of Britain’s largest ancient structures to one of its smallest – a visit toConwy would not be complete without peeking insideBritain’s smallest house. And a peek is all you’ll need. This tiny dwelling isjust six feet wide and ten feet tall, so it won’t take long to look around!Although no longer inhabited, it’s an entertaining visit nevertheless.

Shoppingin Conwy

Conwy’smedieval streets are gems in their own right, and have barely changed over thecenturies. However, the town’s central High Street is now home to a great mixof curiosity shops. You’ll find original art, handmade toys, quirky keepsakes,a Christmas Shop (where it’s Christmas 365 days a year) and even a knight’sshop where you can pick up a sword and coat of armour.

Festivalsin Conwy

Conwymay be small but when it comes to festivals it certainly packs a punch. Inaddition to the Conwy Seed Fair every March, andthe Conwy Honey Fair every September, it hosts theGwledd Conwy Feast each October. Coinciding withthe start of mussel season, this fantastic food festival is one of the largestin Wales, attracting visitors from all over the country and beyond. Indulgeyourself in Welsh culinary delights, a tankard of local beer and live music inthis idyllic ancient setting.

Golfin Conwy

Comealong and practice your swing on the Conwy Morfa Golf Course.Founded in 1869 on the estuary of the Conwy River, the course is purported tobe the oldest in Wales. Small yet popular course, you’ll find it particularlychallenging thanks to the prevailing winds that often sweep in off the coast.

Walked around the estuary to Conwy, seemed very quiet and not sure if it was because it was a Monday but many of the cafes and restaurants were closed.
