Established in 1949,Cwmbran is a relatively new town compared to manyof the towns and locations in the surrounding hills and valleys whose historyin many instances dates back to Roman times. Which isn’t to say that thislively little town isn’t making up for lost time – far from it –Cwmbran is in fact home to one ofWales’ biggest shopping centres, with 170 topbrand shops, restaurants and cafes.

Cwmbranalso boasts a leisure centre, community farm, theatre, stadium, and golf andcountry club. And with Newport’s rich industrial and historical heritage just afew miles to the south, and the BreconBeacons a short trip north you will never be short of things to do inCwmbran.

Home ground toCwmbran Town football club,Cwmbran Stadium is a multi-purpose venue thatincludes floodlit outdoor football and hockey pitches, as well as astate-of-the-art fitness suite and various spa facilities and studios spaces.What’s more, the stadium is enjoying a period of redevelopment that includesthe creation of a vertical adventure playground, a soft play centre and a cafe.

If you like to keep fitthen you’ll want to check out the gym and sauna facilities atCwmbran’s local golf and country club, which alsoboasts a spectacular 18-hole golf course.

Cwmbranboasts a lively cultural scene, not least of which is theCwmbran Big Event that takes place alongside thetown’s boating lake in June and is a joyous celebration of music, sport andchildren’s activities.

The Valeof Usk meanwhile, with its famous salmon fishing, is a mecca for fishermen fromall corners of the land.

Ever so slightly further afield is the Forest of Dean,one of the  last ancient royal forests inBritain, whilst a short drive north will bring you to the phenomenal BreconBeacons National Park, home to SouthWales’ highest mountain peak Pen y Fan.

The people are fab, but Cwmbran seems to just be a large shopping centre, Wetherspoons & supermarkets - no High Street, unless I missed it...

We didn't see much of Cwmbrân and what we did see was okay. However the hotel is actually on the edge of Cwmbrân in Llantarnam, which seemed to be more attractive. Also the location is great for getting to and from other places.
