Great for the price. Will stay there again.
The hotel is on a big street and would be easy to find if you give taxi driver the address and make sure they use the GPS. MRT station is fairly close but the walk is a bit tough in the hot and humid weather. Lobby is fine. All amenities are standard. Bedding was comfortable and clean. Shower was in a wet room with a tub. Water pressure was good. Easy check out. Staff super friendly and helpful.

The staff were extremely accommodating and made our trip with 4 young children very comfortable. I would recommend this hotel to anyone!

Very Taiwanese style!
It was our first time to stay there. Although it is a little far from downtown, the front desk staffs were very helpful to manage our transportation and explain how to take public transportation. The room was big with high ceiling. The building is a little old, but the staff members hospitality compensated well.

Blast From the Past
This hotel is truly a blast from the past. However, that does entail that the hotel rooms need to be renovated somewhat as nearly everything is from the 1970s. It is worth noting though that the number of facilities within the hotel grounds is quite large. They even have a tennis court and a driving range. It is definitely an interesting hotel and worth checking out

Grand Hotel Kaohsiung
Hotel is like an antique; however, it is very clean and comfortable. The people who works there are very polite and their services are very helpful. They help me freeze my meat balls and keep my luggage until my flight departure time, a couple of hours after I checked out. They care about the tiny details, worried for me that my meat balls might defrost during my flight. Didn't have a chance to use the pool and gym. The pool looks very big though. Breakfast is more of a Taiwanese style. Wish it has more choice on the western side, e.g., scramble eggs, etc. My room on the lake side is very big and comfortable. The view is very good. I enjoyed my stay very much. Will definitely come back again.

Inconvenient location.
Disappointed! Three stories bldg, hardwood floor, upstair was running around at mid night made a lot of noise, bathroom and bathtub is very old except toilet is new made by panasonic. If you take bus from Kaohsiung bus station #60 approach to clear lake, took you half an hour and then you need to walk 8 minutes to the hotel.

Beautiful design and very classy setting
I stayed here decades ago when it first opened and although it's a little dated, it still has a classy style in its design and is pretty well-maintained. The room we had was beautifully furnished and spacious with a balcony and lovely views. The only criticism I have is that a high-class hotel needs to have better service. I thought the staff at the front was so busy looking at the paperwork and didn't go out of their way to smile and welcome us. They were all-business in checking in and out. The concierge, however, was very polite. The other aspect during our 2-day stay was that several staff would complain, loudly while we were sitting in the lobby or waiting area, about other guests. I thought there should have been more discretion and professionalism in how they conduct themselves publicly. The staff needs better training. It gives guests the impression they are just seasonal workers and not worried about the reputation of the hotel.
