“Ideal place to stay”
Excellent the manager on arrival was brilliant very helpful. Please pass on my thanks to him
“Great deal for the money”
Nice, comfortable room, away from the airport,. Quiet, clean and freindly
“Nice Hotel”
This is a nice hotel to stay in. Its clean and the rooms are basic but very nice for the price. The hotel is in a nice area and is easy to get to on the bus from the centre. Just take the 383 from Grand Central. The food was nice although a little expensive and the wifi is only available in the lobby which was a pain, other than that it was very nice.
“good place for budget tourist”
maybe this hotel is nothing special but its very good value for the money. One problem its a bit far away from any transport,
“cheap and cheerful”
the staff were lovely and helpful, The deco was modern but it was not falling apart like some reviews have claimed. The room was cheap to book and i wish pleased with the room even though they were some small tea stains near the bin by the kettle. i would use it again and i would tell my friends to use it as well.
“Great Hotel/Clean Rooms/Excellent Service”
Everything during my stay was great aside from one or two memebers of the staff who were somewhat rude. Everyone else was friendly and accomodating. I came for a friend's birthday party. I was upset to find that a certain member of the staff was rude to my friend when she called to leave me a message. She refused to take a message or connect her to my room and couldn't be bothered. She said it was not the hotel's policy to take message. She referred to the person as "arrogant". I let everyone know about it and the staff members I spoke with were genuinely concerned and assured me the person would be dealt with. That is my only complaint and a minor one at that. I would definitely stay again and strongly recommend the Britania Hotel Stockport. Rooms are clean and the pool/spa facilities are great.
“Manchster - value for money”
The Britannia Hotel is situated in Dialstone Lane, Stockport - not an easy location to find without good directions! The hotel is on a quite residential road. It sits quite close to the main road. Behind the hotel is a large car park which never appeared to fill, so parking speces were always readily available. One worrying aspect was a stack of leaflets on the reception desk issued by the Police warning guests not o leave valuables in their cars due to recent car crime - the advice in the leaflet included the suggestion that guests should leave their glove compartments open to show would-be theives that there was nothing worth stealing! On checking-in an apparently inexperienced member of staff commenced the procedure only to be taken over by an obviously ore experiencd member, who changed the room we were to be allocated. The hotel decor is showing signs of age. There are stairs up & down all over the place - inconvenient when struggling with cases. The room was small with just enough room round he bed to walk. The TV received terrestrial stations only. The bath taps (used for filling the tub or the shower) leaked significant water on to the floor. There was no plug in the bath and a call to reception failed to deliver one! The bar had 'happy hour' from 6pm to 9pm which was good. Breakfast was self-service, mediocre, just warm. Overall only just adequate - average - thankfully price reflected this!
“Not as bad as the others made out”
We stayed for 2 nights and it started badly with a problem with the room (2 kids in tow and TV didn't work). However the staff were friendly and quickly moved us. The rooms were showing age and needed better cleaning but nothing serious. First night was bad with a bunch of Danish school kids shouting and thumping around until 2 am but again the staff helped out and went and told them to be quiet and moved them for the next night. Pool was nice but not suitable for smaller children. Gym looked good but I didn't manage to get in it! 2nd morning took ages for water to get hot but it did in the end. Got to say the bed was great, nice and firm and really comfortable. WiFi worked great in the lobby. Summary Not nearly as bad as the previous reviewers made out. It is much cheaper than other hotels in the area and has a pool and gym worth using. Can be noisey but the staff are helpful and they are improving things. If you want a relatively cheap hotel with a few extras for the evening then this is the place. If you want a quiet hotel then get one of the country house hotels round here but expect to pay for it.
“Needs facelift!”
Although the hotel is very comfortable and the staf are pretty good, it is in dire need of renovation. With a decent facelift it would be more attractive to potential guests and better value for money. The only thing they shouldn't change is the showers - the one in my room was absolutely fantastic!! I didn't try them myself due to time constrains but the hotel has loads of other facilities (pool, gym, sauna, etc) which looked pretty good are open to non-residents.
“The staff”
When I arrived at the hotel I was told that I had booked 2 rooms, and if I....stress the I couldn't fix it with in 25 mins I would be charged for 2 rooms. The clerk gave me a number to call and left me to it. Needless to say I couldn't straighten it out, and told the clerk it was there error and she had to fix it, which in the end she did. They put me in a room that was almost uncomfortable...very bare. I had booked a room for 2 different dates...the second room was nice, but had no remote for the TV...which the same staff person was unpleasant about when I asked her for a remote. They couldn't get me one! Some of the staff were lovely tho, and I'd say thanks to them!
