The property boasts exceptionally high standards, including its facilities. The catering is of the highest caliber, featuring steaks sourced from South Africa. The luxurious rooms offer breathtaking views. The fully-equipped gym is an outstanding amenity. The location is conveniently situated, with Ambleside a mere 20-minute stroll away and Bowness a leisurely 1-hour and 30-minute walk distant. The sole concern with the property lies in the limited availability of the spa and its inconvenient timings for guests. I strongly advise carefully considering the spa's timings and booking availability, particularly if utilizing the spa is a primary consideration.

We stayed in the Winander part of the hotel. The room was nice with a great view but the whole experience wasn’t 4 star. There was supposed to be a separate check in in this building but we had to walk over to the main building for this. Breakfast was meant to be served in the Winander block too but this was cancelled in the morning. Understand things can happen lat minute but the rooms are charged at a higher rate for these ‘elite’ services. The front of the main hotel also had scaffolding up which made it look unsightly. Again understand work may need to be done but the hotel should advise people in advance. This trip was for my husband’s birthday and it didn’t have the 4 star wow factor. We are regular travellers and feel it wasn’t worth what we paid sadly. Lake views are stunning from the property and all staff were friendly.

We've stayed in some amazing hotels around the world, but not many beat the location, views and overall experience of The Lowood. Its position on the lake and views across it and up into the Langdales are simply spectacular. Perfectly positioned for sunset too. Whether you are travelling from near or far, If you have booked just B&B be sure to upgrade to access the outdoor spa - it is stunning (do it in advance as places are limited to ensure its not overcrowded). Fingers crossed you get one of those days of sunshine for a full on and mind-blowing combination of nature luxury. We ate twice at the W and the food was fab. An absolute gem of the Lake District.

Amazing spa
Beautiful spa and excellent service. Breakfast was a little chaotic and walls are quite thin so could easily hear other guests but otherwise would highly recommend. Bonus it was dog friendly

Wonderful Hotel
The Low Wood is a wonderful hotel. We were very impressed with the friendly staff and level of service. The location is spectacular. The decor and level of comfort in communal areas is excellent. The only problem was irresponsible dog owners who hadn’t even registered their dog with the hotel and left it alone barking in their room for a very lengthy period This was sorted when staff were made aware of the situation.

Generally lovely stay
It was generally lovely, the second time we’ve stayed. Everything is to a nice standard. It’s also totally worth the stay because the spa is amazing. The most disappointing thing was the breakfast - I wouldn’t have paid for it if it wasn’t included. Everything about the breakfast was pretty average, I’d rather have gone into Ambleside or Keswick and had brunch elsewhere. The window in our room needed attention; it was suffering from damp around the casing. Also the lights in the room were on a bizarre system - it took us ages to get any lights on and off, especially annoying in the middle of the night when you’re going to the bathroom. As I said, it was generally lush. But you expect better with those disappointing features when you’ve paid that much for the stay.

Superb
Absolutely everything was just wonderful. The staff were lovely, the food was out of this world, best breakfast I’ve had in a hotel, the spa was phenomenal. I was a little disappointed at having to pay for the spa for 3 hours but after going it’s well worth the money and wouldn’t spend more than 3 hours in there. Room was gorgeous and couldn’t be any closer to the lake unless it was actually in it. We’ll definitely be back.

Excellent hotel. We’ll be back!
We stayed in a Winander Club Lime room. It was perfect. The only negative is that we had to pay for parking because we used Hotels.com, when it’s free otherwise. Seems a bit of an unnecessary additional cost.

Stay in the Winander!
Beautiful rooms and views. Love the exclusivity of the Winander rooms, breakfast room and bar. Only let down was service at breakfast, we seemed to have been forgotten and other tables ordered and were served before us who had arrived later. The salmon and poached eggs on toasted muffin was returned twice, undercooked and very wet.

Overall impression was good however long walk from car park to reception with luggage, could do with drop off area. Room 28 curtains did not block out strong lights on all night and room could benefit from somewhere to sit other than the bed.

Quality hotel experience with a slight twist
Generally acceptable, however outdoor pool & hot tubs NOT available to residents, even though these facilities are featured prominently in the hotel photo gallery and description It was spelt out before that parking at £12.00 per day was chargeable, so at least that was forewarned. However NO mention was made of the fact that even if you're paying for a superior, lake view room, you have to pay extra for the outdoor pool and hot tubs. The hotel does its best to hide this arrangement

Great stay
Great stay, hotel is immaculate and staff are very friendly. We were offered vouchers to redeem at the bar for drinks instead of maid service which we took. Maid still came in one day which was nice. We arrived on a Saturday and it was very busy. There was a wedding on so lots of kids running around. If you’re looking for a quiet trip book another day and avoid the weekends if you can. Wasn’t too bad and we didn’t mind. Spa is fantastic and we enjoyed a spa day with 2 course lunch. Loved it! I also had a facial which was incredible. Thoroughly recommend making use of the spa. Don’t get caught out with parking like we did. It’s not made clear that booking through Hotels.com means you’ll save a couple of quid on the room but only to pay £12 a night parking. If you book direct with the hotel parking is free. Sound proofing is a small issue. The owners could do with improving this. It was only an issue on the Saturday night when kids were running around. Once the hotel quietened down on the Sunday it was bearable. I take ear plugs everywhere so didn’t bother me. All in all a great stay and I would definitely return .

Exceptional Food, but good luck getting a table.
Difficult booking a table for both restaurants. It seems you have to book at least a month in advance to secure a decent time. It would be appreciated if guests were prioritised over none-guests (unreserved tables for walk-in hotel guests) or contacted by customer service to make these reservations. Having said that, we did manage to eat at Blue Smoke and the food (fillet, lobster, Cajun fries and cheesecake) was exceptional. The spa is also very good, with amazing views across the lake, but it’s disappointing that guest can only use the pool at particular times (early morning / evening). Staff were friendly and polite but I think a few changes to customer services (restaurant and pool) would make this a 5 star hotel.

A good hotel with aspirations it doesn't quite meet. For £200 a night, Quality and luxury should be built in, but somehow they are not. I stayed three nights and ate in both restaurants. One had a steak at £32 which at lunch, included 2 sides, but at dinner was just the steak. Sides extra at £5 each. Good, but not excellent steak, stone cold mushroom and a sprinkling of fries was not really worth the money. This place is £200 a night, then it tries to charge £12 a night for parking. Lots of room to improve so that the product justifies the price

The hotel is on a noisy main road - the lake view rooms look over the road towards the lake but they hide this in the photos. If you book through Expedia or similar you have to pay £12 per day parking (but it’s free if you book direct with hotel). Rooms are tired, air conditioning barely works but too noisy to open the balcony doors. No mini bar in room. Breakfast is ok. Restaurants booked up so couldn’t eat there.
