"I love staying in old, off the highway, trad motels. This one sounded great- new soundproofing and clean and quiet. The room was fine. The bed great. BUT...
dogs across the street began barking at 5am. I had gone to sleep at midnight, intending to take advantage of a late checkout at 10:30 the next day. The deep barks of the dogs came straight through the A/C vent not six feet from my head. I examined the outside of the room later and saw a clear conduit for any noise (cars in the alley, any traffic on the road behind the motel, and DOG BARKING before dawn!) Despite pillow over the head, ear plugs, A/C turned up before the 90 degrees returned in daylight, I could not get back to sleep. I went to the office, knocked- maybe another room would be empty and I could move over to sleep. No answer. I packed up and drove out of Winnemucca. I tried calling the motel manager along the way west; no answer until 11 that night. Got the email address so I tried emailing the motel to describe the situation; it bounced back. I wrote a letter and am awaiting a response. In the meantime, steer clear of this night time issue- unless steady hours of barking don't bother you. They sure ruined my night of hopeful sleep."
