Xindian is a neighbourhood in the southern reaches of Taipei. It is situated between the commercial and residential hearth of Taipei and the beautiful Xueshan Range. In recent years, the district has undergone a lot of development including connections to the downtown area via the Taipei Metro Gtrrn line. The IT industry has also expanded into this district too. Nevertheless, Xindian has maintained its spacious residential feel with plenty of recreational activities offered.

While in Xindian, spending an afternoon at Bitan is something all tourists should experience. This beautiful lake is where much of the district’s water recreation is. Paddle boats are available for rent or visitors can simply enjoy swimming in the emerald-coloured water. Plenty of coffee shops provide great places to rest with pleasing views of this man-made lake.

Hiking up Wufeng Shan is the perfect way to get some exercise and enjoy stunning views of Taipei’s surrounding natural landscapes. The hike passes through some spectacular pockets of forest land and several temples can be seen along the way.

Some of the best places to eat in Xindian are the cafés and restaurants along the shores of Bitan. Even though they can be quite pricey, the range of cuisine and quality of the food is fantastic. Xindian is also home to several famous vegetarian restaurants including some delightful Chinese-style vegetarian venues. There isn’t much of a nightlife in the district. Nevertheless, there are some restaurants that serve alcoholic beverages. The cafés at Bitan have a breath-taking views of the sunsets too.

There are both modern and traditional shopping facilities. However, the most popular places to shop are the large department stores found inside the district. Places like the Global Mall and Hankyu Department Store boast an incredible range of retailers and services. Tourists can easily spend a few hours shopping in these major department stores.
