This was for an overnight stay whilst visiting York. I did anticipate that the Mercure Fairfield Manor Hotel would be a slight upgrade from your everyday Premier Inn but was slightly dissappointed with the condition of our hotel room/bathroom. The furniture was antiquated & worn, the toilet handle was hanging off & the bath tap was constantly dripping. The thermostat on the wall for temperature regulation was not working correctly so it was either very cold or stiflingly hot & the radiator was actually turned off when we first arrived. We were also placed in a room that was right next to where the working staff would wheel large bins past us which made for noisy early morning/evening! On a positive note, the breakfast was ample & well attended by the friendly culinary members of staff.

The hotel was in a good locationand although it offered the opportunity to use a local health club facilities on site would be an improvement. The staff were very helpful and all very polite and had smiley faces. We had breakfast and evening meal in the hotel for all 5 days. I woykd suggest the the dining room seemed a bit chilly as the air conditioning was on. The food was all very good with plenty of choice all cooked to a good standard. We took advantage of the 2 courses for £18 evening meal but there was some confusion when we paid the bill which i had to question as some meals gadnt been charged at the correct rate(£36 for 2 people) I think it was because some food was in the offer some was not. The old system they had where all food was in the offer but certain foods had an additional cost( eg steak) the staff said was more straight forward. Having said the the food bill was sorted to our satisfaction. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitly return and consider Mercure hotels for future breaks

Clean and comfortable. Loved the little touches in the room, e.g. Earl Grey Tea, coffee machine, bottled water, fluffy towels, comfortable mattress. It was these little touches around food and drinks which would make me recommend staying here.

Paid £320 for a 2 night stay. Room was very dated and hasnt been upgraded for a very long time ( decor suggest 1980s ) staff not helpful at desk, I asked if she had info on bus services to city centre, she replied thats not her job and that id have to go online and google it

Cant fault the hotel itself but on several occasions my wife and i were (in our opinion) deliberately over charged every time we ordered food or short changed ar the bar! This was always by the evening staff and im not sure if this is there way of bumping up their wages.

Recent short notice stay at this hotel. We were warned about the work going in the bar/restaurant area. Good points were friendly and helpful staff and decent quality food. The breakfast was being served in what looked like a meeting room and was typical full English hotel breakfast, but perfectly fine. We ordered room service in the evening using their app. Food was delivered quickly and hot. Really good quality, if a little pricey. The hotel is also in a useful location with attractive grounds and plenty of parking. WiFi was fast and easy to connect to. The main downside, however, was the standard of the room and the general decor of the communal areas. The room was well below the standard of a 4 star hotel and the bathroom very tired - the sticker on the heated towel rail stating it had failed electrical inspection was particularly unimpressive. Toilet didn't flush very well and the sink was very slow to drain. Overall, not a terrible stay by any means but difficult to recommend in its current state. Does look as if the company is starting to modernise, however and it is in a good location for the north side of York

Overall a very pleasant stay. It is a shame that the renovations are impinging in the lounge etc. One small thought, attention to the beverages in the room. We had 2 teabags/coffee/sugar,for a 2 people/2 night stay. Reception helped us out.

This is our 3rd stay here. We've stayed in the centre of the city before but most places are small. The rooms here are spacious and quiet. There is a footpath that takes you across fields and along the river, straight into the city. It takes about an hour. The walk is part of our routine as we really enjoy it. There is also a bus stop straight outside the hotel. We have never caught it before, but on our first night we had a table booked at a restaurant in the city. We waited at the stop but the bus didnt arrive. We went back to the hotel and the friendly man behind the desk advised us to use the park and ride, about a 10 minute walk down the road. Generally good. We had a room with a broken toilet seat, and we were moved to another room straight away by a very helpful young woman in reception. Unfortunately, the new room had a bathroom fan that was incredibly noisy, but we didn't want another move. The Wi-Fi service is fairly poor, but this is a difficult problem in hotels as people sit in their rooms streaming video on the likes of Netflix - adding more capacity just means they now stream at 4K quality, and your connection is still maxed out. They tried to help by giving us access to the conference wifi network, but it wasn't much better. Breakfast was of really good quality, though they seemed very understaffed. Every time we came down in the morning, there weren't staff there as they appeared to be running around having to deal with something. I hate to raise this thing with management at the time as it just ends up with them coming down on staff and telling them to be more visible rather than addressing the problems they're being pulled away to fix. The car park could benefit from just a minimum of lighting. It was so dark when we parked it was hard to see where I was parking the car, and I was quite nervous walking from the car to the hotel. Apart from that, the rooms were clean and well-serviced, the beds and bathroom were clean, and the shower had plenty of hot water at good pressure. The communal areas were well-kept. The service was great.

Gem of a hotel just outside York
Great check in experience and communications with reception by telephone before I arrived as I was running very late. Great to be able to talk to someone and not get an endless set of options and pre-recorded messages. I couldn't get into the restaurant as I was late but there's a good selection of bar meals and drinks and the bar staff were very friendly and quick to serve. This is not a new hotel but everywhere was clean. Very good size room with traditional bathroom with shower over tub and a very comfortable bed giving great sleep followed by a very fresh full breakfast. The hotel offers good stable wifi and will be somewhere I visit again for work in York.

Fit for purpose but with nothing outstanding or special. Stayed for one night and gave no issues or complaints except for overpriced rooms.

Comfortable stay
Easy check in. Comfortable beds. Didn’t spend a lot of time at the hotel as we arrived there pretty late at night then we were out all day at our sons graduation the next day. Bathrooms need updating but everything is there that you need just a little tired. Didn’t have breakfast as it was expensive and we don’t eat cooked breakfast so £17pp was a bit steep for a coffee and croissant, no option for just continental breakfast. All in all a very pleasant stay

Excellent location and quick access from A1. Big car park which was free and a bonus. Decent size rooms, but we were given an occupied room at first which was concerning, the guests / occupiers clothes and toiletries were all around the room. The second room we were given really needed a good tidy up, big dark stains on carpet, shower handle kept falling off. These are all easily fixed. Carpets easily clean. Not sure why they hadn’t addressed these issues ?? Good restaurant and bar. Great breakfast. Good amenities down stairs. Staff were very courteous and helpful. Nice hotel, great access but some rooms could do with a really good tidy up - I paid just under £400 for a Friday & Saturday night stay. Would have expected significantly better standards for that price.
