City Park

Bring the kids to this wide, open parkland in the center of Brasília, where you’ll find playgrounds, an amusement park and paths for long walks.

Take a moment on your tour of the Federal District to explore the large City Park (Parque da Cidade). This wide parkland in the center of a modern city provides an open green space for exercise, entertainment or just enjoying fresh air.

City Park was built in the 1970s as part of Saint Dom Bosco’s dream for a utopian city in the heart of Brazil. Take your time to explore over 988 acres (400 hectares) of parkland that includes well-maintained lawns, picturesque plant life and a gleaming lake.

For a relaxing experience, explore the 7.4 miles (12 kilometers) of pathways that cater to walkers, joggers, roller skaters and cyclists. Follow different paths on shorter walks and around open parkland that reflects the natural savannah-like landscape of Brazil. Be sure to bring plenty of sun protection as some of the paths are lacking in shade.

Kids won’t have any problem finding things to do in this park. Let them loose on wide lawns to play ball games, take them to feed the birds near the lake or watch as they amuse themselves on the big playgrounds provided.

This park is home to plenty of unexpected delights. At one entrance, find a number of stalls that sell coconut water and fruit on hot days. Nearby, enjoy the thrills and lights of a charming amusement park.

After active exercise, use the park as a base for a quiet lunch in the center of the busy city. The lakeside is a great place to bring a picnic and eat while watching flying geese skim the water. Pick up fresh meat and produce at a nearby grocer and use the barbecue areas to grill a feast.

After seeing the natural beauty of the City Park, admire nearby urban delights. Visit the visually captivating Dom Bosco Sanctuary, with its enormous blue stained windows or climb Brasília’s TV Tower and enjoy the view.

Access Brasília’s City Park by car, taxi or bus from the Central Bus Station.
