Burleigh Heads

Enjoy this perfect weekend getaway destination with world-class surf breaks, white sands, restaurants, bars and nature walks to suit every type of traveller.

Burleigh Heads is known for its excellent surf beaches, relaxed atmosphere and proximity to the famous theme parks of the Gold Coast. Wade in for a swim or ride the endless waves or explore a nature reserve at your leisure. The beaches are well patrolled and the subtropical climate is ideal for outdoor activities year-round.

After a morning on the beach, enjoy the sights and sounds of Burleigh Heads by dining alfresco at one of the many nearby cafés and restaurants. Head to James Street for boutique shopping and dining options.

Take a picturesque walk around Burleigh Point on the beachfront. To spot some local wildlife, take a stroll through the Burleigh Heads National Park. The park has a rainforest cover, mangrove trees, volcanic columns and birdlife. If you prefer a guided walk, take a tour with Geo-Nature Walks and Tours to learn about the Aboriginal history and geology of the area. In winter and spring, keep an eye out for dolphins and whales around the headland.

View nature up close at the David Fleay Wildlife Park or head further out to visit Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. See native wildlife, such as koalas and crocodiles, and feed colourful lorikeets.

The annual highlight is the nostalgic Cooly Rocks On festival, which is all about vintage cars, dancing to live music, retro markets and street parades. The festival attracts some of the biggest names in Rock ‘n’ Roll, Swing and Rockabilly, so check the website when it is on and take a trip down memory lane.

Burleigh Heads stretches as far north as Miami Headland, Miami, and as far south as Tallebudgera Creek, Palm Beach. The Gold Coast’s exciting theme parks are just short drive away and public transport can take you there too. Take a trip to Movie World, Sea World, Wet‘n’Wild or Dreamworld for a day of entertainment or thrilling rides.
