Pangka Beach

Nestled in the south-west corner of Koh Samui, Pangka Beach is the perfect spot to get away from it all.

Possibly the most chilled out, secluded part of the island, Pangka is the place to go on Samui for those in search of a romantic island getaway. Tucked away in the south-west of the island, it's as far as possible from the buzzing nightlife of the north and east coasts. As a result, there's really not much on offer here in terms of entertainment, with the village catering primarily to the locals. But, if your plan for Samui is to laze in the sun and maybe take the odd dip or two, you've definitely come to the right place. If you're planning to stay in the area, there is plenty of accommodation all along the beach, with everything from budget options to a bit more luxury. The better resorts often offer watersports and beach activities for guests. Most people come here to laze, whether by the pool or on the beach, but if you fancy something a bit more active, head for the hills and explore some of the nearby temples. If you have the kids in tow, you could pay a visit to the Samui Snake Farm just behind Pangka. This reptile zoo is great fun for the kids and offers live shows starring mighty cobras and pythons. Also nearby is Thong Krut Bay and its fishing village. If you feel like getting off the island, you can charter a boat here and head for the islands of Koh Mudsum and Koh Tan. This is the perfect opportunity for a bit of snorkelling or scuba diving.Unsurprisingly, the nightlife in Pangka is essentially non-existent. What the area does have, though, is one of the finest sunsets on Samui. Make the most of it by grabbing a cocktail, settling yourself by the pool, and following the sun's trajectory as it dips below the reflective waters of the bay.Pangka Beach, like most of Koh Samui, is easily accessible. It is located 20 minutes to the south of Samui International Port and about an hour away from the island's airport.
