“Hotel Experience.”
We loved the location of the hotel on the lake. Our overall experience at the hotel was outstanding and memorable.
“Italy at it's best! Classiest hotel we have ever been in!”
This is a magnificent Hotel in a gorgeous setting! Definitely get a lake view! Hotel is old Europe done in a baroque classic style with nothing left to improve. Can't wait to return!
“Magical experience.”
The hotel is a pure child of the bygone era of the Grand Hotels of 19th century. The atmosphere brings to mind places like Splendido in Portofino, Winter Palace in Luxor or Old Cataract in Aswan. You step in a different world, full of opulence and grandeur, it feels as a theater due to the splendid decorations and uniform of the staff. My room with garden view on the fifth floor had a nice balcony with a view of the fountain, which also had a carillon that played the Ode to Joy from Beethoven's 9th Symphony in the evening. The room itself was a delight, doors and furniture decorated with inlaid wood, marble bathroom splendidly and generously adorned with innumerable towels, robe and slippers. The toiletries were marvelous, too. The bed was extremely comfortable, and overall I could say - this hotel knows how to please guests for more than a century. The breakfast was quite good, average for a hotel of this class, and I loved the outside seating - the weather was perfect in the early October, and the view over the lake from the hotel terrace was beautiful. The service is professional and generous; they allowed me free parking and kept my luggage after the check-out until later in the day, when I departed. The location is excellent, 10 min to train station and 5 min to the boats to take you to the islands. Everything was a perfection. I will definitely return there, and I recommend this hotel for those who don't mind an expense to get the best of the best.
“Grand Hotel on Lago Maggiore”
Upon arrival we were upgraded to a lake front room, the veiw was magnificent. And it just kept on getting better from there until the end of our stay. Great hotel and great staff. We were treated like royalty.
“An Exceptionally Fine Hotel”
This deserves the 5 stars it has been awarded. Exceptional grounds and decor with impecable service. The breakfasts, which were included in the price of the room, were excellent. The room was expensive, but worth the experience.
“Grand hotel; great value”
The hotel is beautifully restored, with impeccable service and excellent food. The out of season rates were very reasonable, considering the quality of the experience.
“Stresa vacation”
Outstanding hotel. We have travelled extensively and this hotel is one of the best we have stayed in. The hotel room, hallways and common areas are decorated in exquiste classic italianate detail.
“Brilliant hotel, lovely location”
We loved this hotel. It was luxurious with stunning grounds and amazing ornate decor. We were upgraded to a lake view room with a whirlpool bath. The hotel is just a short walk from the centre of Stresa but much quieter than the centre itself. Views over the lake are stunning. The staff were wonderful - really helpful and friendly - and the breakfast was amazing: a fantastic buffet with every thing from sparking wine and smoked salmon to cereals and fresh fruit. The only criticism I could make was that dinner in the restaurant and drinks at the bar are a bit overpriced.
“We loved it, we will go back!”
This hotel is excellent. The staff is super friendly, food is one of the best. Our breakfast was the best ever. We loved staying theres. We will go back again.
“Impressive hotel, romantic location, wonderful holiday”
The hotel is elaborately decorated with beautiful furniture and antiques and our room had a view over the gardens and through our side balcony we could see out over the lake. It is only a short walk into Stresa centre along the lakefront promenade. In the centre there are plenty of restaurants and shops but most are geared for the tourist season which runs April-October. We travelled in March so the town was a little bit quiet but the lake was beautiful with the spring flowers and we enjoyed the scenery without having to worry about negotiating the crowds. We also had excellent service in all the restaurants and in the hotel, which was fantastic since we were travelling with our 12 week old daughter. She was welcomed enthusiastically wherever we went - even on the cable car journey up to Mottarone. Our room was kept immacutely clean throughout our stay and the housekeeping and concierge staff were friendly and helpful. The prices in the restaurant are very high although the food is excellent - if you are planning on eating in the hotel a lot I would book half-board. Breakfast is continental - it is (a lot) extra for eggs and bacon, but there is still plenty of choice. There is an indoor pool in the hotel as well as the outdoor one - we only realised on our last day since it is not widely advertised. The hotel also has a spa. We had a wonderful holiday, very relaxing and refreshing and we would love to go back.

Stresa, Italy: Favoured by European aristocracy in the mid-19th century, and consequently endowed with several grand hotels and villas, Stresa is now a small, quiet lakeside resort. Villa Pallavicino has a fine wooded park, botanic garden and small zoo. The favourite excursion is to the Borromean Islands, particularly Isola Bella, for its palace and gardens.
