“Great Location, Friendly Staff”
My stay at the Grand City Hotel was just one night. I was very happpy with all aspects of my stay. The hotel is on one edge of the Kassel center city and convenient to transportation, the tourist office and the pedestrian shopping zone as well as all major sites of interest to the tourist. Hotel staff speaks English. Though I did not have breakfast at the hotel, the breakfast buffet was extensive in the food choices. I would stay at the Grand City Hotel again and certainly recommend it.
“A so so place”
The only thing going for them is that their location is convenient in the city center. I was visiting the Documenta 12, so the main exhibition halls were walking distance. The front desk people were very helpful.
“good location for Documenta”
A great location for visiting the venues of Documenta. Located on a busy street corner so excellent for transport links and very close to pedestrianised centre, but also traffic noise might disturb you if a light sleeper in need of a lie-in! Clean room and useful information from hotel staff breakfast food o.k. (and was an extra not included in booking) with friendly service.

Hannover Airport (HAJ): Approximate driving time to Mark Hotel Hessenland is 100 minutes and distance is 190 kilometres (118 miles).
Getting there: Bus 9E runs from the airport once a day, stopping at Kassel en route to Heidelberg. The S-Bahn S5 line runs half-hourly between the airport and Hannover Central Railway Station, from where a train can be caught to Kassel.
Driving directions: From Hannover Airport, take the A 7 and exit at "Dreieck Kassel: Stadtmitte" for the A49. Take exit "Stadtmitte / Auestadion" for Innenstadt / Rathaus and continue for one kilometre. Then turn right to Frankfurter Strasse, and continue to a hill called Weinberg. Follow the tramline and turn left at the next junction at the top of the hill (at cinema “Cineplex”). At the next junction turn left (on the left is the Restaurant "Eckstein") into "Obere Königsstrasse" and on the hotel is on the left.
Getting around:Central Kassel is best explored on foot, with complimentary bicycle hire available at the hotel to guests who wish to ride and venture further. The city is well served by public transport.
