“"Excellent value for a great price!"”
Clean and spacious room with great views of the mountains surrounding San Jose. It's not in downtown San Jose so it's a more quiet neighborhood but conveniently located right off the PanAmerican highway. The hotel staff speak English and are very helpful with getting taxis, setting up tours, ect.. There is a lovely pool and garden as well as 3 very nice restaurants (although pricey) in the hotel. Best complementary breakfast I've ever had. There is apparently a small casino in the hotel but I never checked it out.
“PLEASANTLY SURPRISED”
AFTER HAVING READ THE REVIEWS ON THIS HOTEL, MY ONLY RESERVATION WAS THAT I SPEAK VERY LITTLE SPANISH, AND IN THE REVIEWS THEY GAVE THE IMPRESSION THAT THE STAFF AT THE DESK WAS SOMEHOW NOT VERY HELPFUL. I FOUND THIS NOT TO BE TRUE AT ALL. THE STAFF WERE ALL FANTASTIC, AND MOST SPOKE ENGLISH TO SOME EXTENT. THE DAILY FREE BREAKFAST IS NICE, ALL THE RESTAURANTS ARE BASICALLY OVERPRICED, THE BUFFET WAS WAY OVERPRICED FOR WHAT THEY HAD. THE FOOD WAS OK THOUGH. ONE NIGHT I ORDERED ROOM SERVICE. MY CHEESEBURGER AND FRIES ARRIVED IN ABOUT 30 MINUTES. POOL AREA IS VERY NICE PLACE TO CHILL.YOU CAN GET DRINKS AND SOME FOOD THERE TOO. THE GYM WAS ACTUALLY A LITTLE BETTER THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE. NOT HUGE BUT HAD MOST EVERYTHING I WANTED. VERY NICE HOTEL

“nice hotel, OK location”
I thought this hotel was going to be a lot closer to downtown San Jose than it actually is. I wasn't about to catch taxis all the time so we ended up walking down highways to find more affordable places to eat than the hotel restaurant. It was definitely an adventure. Other than the location, I highly recommend this hotel.
“The best hotel and service in San Jose, Costa Rica”
Excellent. This hotel is really good. It is not expensive but is a 5 star hotel. The service is excellent. And they have a free shuttle to the airport. All the tours that you make, can pick you up at the hotel. Is very clean, the people are very kindly and the best service.
“Very Impressed”
I just got back from this hotel a few days ago. I went with my 13 year old nephew. We were very happy with this hotel. The staff was friendly & helpful. It was 15 min. from the airport. They provide a free airport shuttle even though it's not listed on the website. The room was spacious, comfortable & clean. I wish they vacuumed every day though. But they did clean the room daily. The beds were hard. We ate at the El Rancho Grill & the Anfora Restaurant. We ate off the menu at both & not the buffet. The prices were reasonable & food was good. We took 3 excursions booked at the hotel. All were very good. I would stay here again & was recommending the hotel to people we on the excursions. I booked it because of the price & location. I was on a tight budget.
“Very Satisfied, Wonderful place to stay!”
We spent 3 nights in this hotel & were very happy with our accomodations. The room was comfortable & clean, the staff was very friendly & grounds were absolutly beautiful. If I return to San Jose I will definitly stay here.
“We will always stay at a Barcelo!”
Our flight was delayed, our luggage lost and it was 2:00 in the morning. We got to the hotel and they upgraded us to a suite after discovering we had no bags, provided toiletries and "extras". The next day the excursions employee not only made calls to the airport regarding our luggage but ended up being solely responsible for actually getting our luggage to us at our final destination (5 hours away!) This gentleman went above and beyond for complete strangers and saved our trip! When we went to book a room for our return to San Jose the desk clerk advised us to use Expedia to get more than half off the rate! We have stayed at Barcelo in Puerto Vallarta before and now San Jose Costa Rica and we will definately stay again! Thank you Barcelo Staff -keep up the great work!

I'm going back to Costa Rica at lease 5 more times this year, with and without family. Iplan to stay at the Palacio each trip .It is a good value for the buck .
“Clean,quiet and convenient”
Nice rooms with open views,good firm beds,quality cable TV lineup, nice pool-but shallow, buffet was of good quality but expensive ($22 for dinner). Helpful staff
