“Lovely B&B and good location”

I had a wonderful 2-day stay at La Gioconda, starting with no surprises with respect to the reservation, warm welcome, helpful information and help recommending and booking a tour. La Gioconda has a European feel to it, beautiful and elegant furnishings and large comfortable rooms and beds. I was traveling alone and felt very comfortable and secure. A couple of the guests were there for longer term stays which is also a good indicator. I would definitely stay here again! Tip: Call "Interbus" (small van) for your transportation to the Airport. The cost is $15.00 compared to $30. for a taxi.

“Quality at an affordable price.”

Our visit to LaGioconda House Hotel B&B, Costa Rica, was as pleasant and the Country and its beauty. Vicente & Antonela were wonderful host as well as their staff. They were professional and yet warm; treating us like family. The rooms was clean, well lighted and temperature comfortable. For breakfast there was a variety of foods, fresh fruit salad, and hot Costa Rican coffee. Pura Vida! I would highly recommend this place to stay for a short visit or a place to stay/home away from home. Good food, great people, wonderful atmosphere!

“Good Value and Service”

This place was a very cute and cozy bed and breakfast. It is a great location- within walking distance of the main area. It was better to be a little further out because the city can be noisy and busy! They were always willing to help give directions, suggestions where to go and eat, etc. We would definitely stay there again! The breakfast was basic and fine, nothing special. We rented a car through the hotel through the company U-Save. They were a little rude the day they dropped the car off, then ended up ripping us off in the end. They charged us for a bunch of different things and kept changing their story as to why they charged us (upgraded SUV, damage to the car, extra insurance, etc). Needless to say, don't rent through them... We are having to go through the reimbursement process which is not fun. Otherwise, the hotel was great!

“Loved La Gioconda”

Check-in was so easy, and then we were led up to the beautiful Ciel Azul suite, the only room on the second floor. There was TONS of space in the bedroom, sitting room, and bath and all were graciously appointed. The room was comfortable and fairly quiet (you are in the city so some noise is to be expected), and all of the staff, especially owners Antonella and Vincenzo, were extremely helpful. They booked trips, recommended restaurants and shopping, even helped us communicate with taxi drivers and always asked if there was anything else we needed. The sitting area downstairs is also a relaxing place to start your day, and the breakfast was generous. I would highly recommend La Gioconda and would definitely stay there again. A tip, the address you need to tell a taxi driver to find the hotel is "across from the Nicaraguan Embassy" or "frente de embajada de Nicauragua." You will be so happy when you arrive!

“If Visiting Costa Rica, This IS the Place to Stay”

The people were extremely nice and the area was pretty safe. The rooms were adequately sized and cleaned every day. They offered trips and tours and would tell you where the hole in the wall awesome joints are to go and visit or where to eat. P.S. Play the owner in pool.

“Great B & B”

We got a taxi from the airport direct to the airport ($20) after a late flight and got a great welcome from the staff. The rooms are a good size, clean and comfortable each one themed tastefully to old films. Free WiFi was a real asset in planning our onward trip. We returned later in our trip so got to try several rooms both good. Moving around Costa Rica is very easy with a great inter hotel bus service who will drop you door to door then local trips can be booked from there. The location of the B & B is great for a short walk into the main centre of San Jose but there is a Pizza Hut discreetly located behind the B & B for those not wanting to walk far after dark. The B & B is very secure with staff letting you in on return. We feel happy to recommend this place for a place to stay. If planning a local tour with an operator make sure you check if it’s an adults only tour as we got stuck on a trip with two screaming children on it! Not good if you are on a wildlife spotting trip!

I had an amazing time staying at La Gioconda. The family who own the hotel are so kind and welcoming. However, if you have animal allergies it may not be the place for you as they have a cat and a dog.
