“Excellent Hotel in England's smalles city”

This is a great country hotel. From the moment you check in at reception (where there are friendly and efficient staff) you feel completely at home. The rooms are comfortable and well-decorated. The quality of the public rooms is good (nice log fires in teh winter) and the restaurant is good value. Breakfasts are very substantial. The hotel is ideally situated for the tourist attractions in Wells and is also a few paces away from some very good restaurants (Goodfellows is an excellent seafood restaurant). Winter breaks are reasonably priced (effectively 2 nights for the price of one). Only criticisms are the stairs are very steep (we did nto discover an elevator) and limited car parking space).

“Had a wonderful time in Wells”

The welcome was lovely - very helpful receptionist who gave good advice about the City and local eating places. The hotel is very well situated in the heart of the city. Hotel parking was a little tight but we always found a space. We had been warned by the hotel in advance of a function on one night of our stay - but we were not disturbed by it at all. There were a couple of niggly things about our room - the kettle had a habit of boiling three times in a row and a window had a hole in it (albeit that the weather was mild and the curtains thick - so we were not adversely affected). The main let down was that on one of our three mornings, the breakfast service was incredibly slow. However, the food was fresh and very tasty. Overall - would definately recommend the hotel and the city for a good relaxing break.

“It was just alright”

I really wanted to stay in the hotel with my husband, as it is where some of Hot Fuzz was filmed but we weren't in the hotel itself but the rather charmless Coach House. It was ok but not at all like i was expecting, and I hadn't known beforehand that we wouldn't be in the hotel. Hotel bar was nice with lovely, smokey fire, however ,I had the worst Irish coffee of my life ( and I've had a few) - it somehow smelled of cheese! Our room wasn't cleaned after our first night, just a little pile of towels left at the door. However, when I mentioned this, two very kind ladies from reception came over and did it while we were out. There was a wedding on that weekend and I feel this really detracted from our stay. This may be why we were sent off to the outback of the coach house, and was why, when we came back from Wookey hole on Sat afternoon, that the car park was closed off even though there wwere loads of spaces ( as we discovered later, after having paid to park miles away). However, the breakfast was brilliant, staff in the dining room really good, and the location was spot on, right in the middle of everything.
