“Great location, amazing view”

What a value! For about the price of a room at a bland business hotel in the states, we had a sizeable room with a king bed and a full wall of windows (that actually opened) looking out onto a lovely private garden and the River Avon. Our bathroom was luxurious with high-end toiletries, and the room was stocked with a seven flavors of tea, plus coffee and cookies (well, biscuits actually). This hotel is directly across from the RSC theater, and has a comfy pub open for after-show drinks. They offer affordable room service, and the people are friendly and helpful. They also let us check in early and leave our bags after check-out so we could do some last-minute sight seeing.Stratford is an expensive and touristy town, and guest houses and B&B's will often be the best value. But, if you like the comfort, privacy, and amenities of a real hotel, this property can compete on price.

“Great Hotel!”

Very clean and confortable, with a friendly staff. Great location near many attractions, restaurants and pubs. Breakfast at the on-site restaurant/bar was great. Would definitely stay there again.

“Good location for RSC trips”

Opposite the RSC Theatre (under re-development) and two minutes walk away from the temporary Courtyard RSC Theatre. Good comfortable rooms. Breakfast crowded and expensive - found nice tearoom on high street as alternative breakfast venue day 2. Car park advertised - difficult to locate (round the back of the hotel on a 1-way street); charge applied which was a bit of a surprise. Overall - would stay here again if visiting RSC

“Fantastic Location”

I don't think you could get a better located hotel in Stratford Upon Avon. The Thistle is perfect, especially if are going to a play at the RSC, as the Swan is opposite and the Courtyard is 5 mins walk away. Rooms are large with a great bathroom (and bath!). The hotel is deceiving as it looks small from the outside but is quite big inside. We are definately going to try and book this hotel whenever we visit Stratford - good price too!

“Theatre break in Stratford, Easter 2007”

The Thistle in Stratford is ideally placed for a theatre visit. Very central, with parking spaces (at a small extra cost) - ideal if you want to park the car and spend the weekend on foot. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. The decor is a little dated and shabby, but that didn't spoil our stay at all.

“great location”

This hotel is in a perfect location for visitng Stratford and the surrounding areas. It's on the doorstep of the theatres and the river and round the corner from the main town centre. It also has reasonably priced parking. They need more staff in the restaurant and on reception - we went on a bank holiday and there was only one staff on reception at a time even though the hotel was full. Room was basic but clean and comfortable. It's a really expensive hotel to book on spec, so ALWAYS get the Expedia price!

“Great Location in Stratford”

This hotel was directly across the street from the Royal Shakespeare Theater in Stratford and just one block from the Avon Canal and River. The room was clean and comfortable with charming English Country style. I would definitely chose this hotel again for the location, friendly staff, comfortable rooms and reasonable price.

“great location but only average hotel”

Our room was clean and tidy but a little shaby and was in bad need of refurbishment as indeed was the hotel in general. The staff though were very pleasent and friendly and the car park was handy(fee). We only had a weekend stay and overall it was ok but i think next time i will try somewhere different.

“Convenient to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre”

The hotel is very convenient to the theatre and for touring the town. The rooms, however, are tired and need a facelift. We had a double room with twin beds and one of the beds was pushed up against a wall with peeling wallpaper. Yuk. Also the device needed to hold the window steady when open was broken and caused the window to bang through the night. The hotel needs some attention to little details that make it more attractive and comfortable. The staff was friendly and breakfast was tasty.

“Very convenient to theaters, but in need of refurbishing.”

I would not consider this 3.5 stars. It is very convenient to the theaters which is a plus but badly needs refurbishment. My room looked old and shabby and had an unpleasant smell. Service staff were nice but not professional hotel staff. They didn't know where the key to my room was told me "the guy who stayed last night probably still has it." So they gave me a "spare key" labeled as such. No secure baggage storage either.
