Property Amenities
Featuring a cream-and-gold color scheme, including marble floor, the Hotel Carlton & Grand Canal lobby provides conversation areas with upholstered seating. The hotel staff speaks fluent English.
Room Amenities
Dining
A complimentary buffet breakfast is provided each morning.
Bar Carlton Cafe - Leaded-glass windows facing promenade along Grand Canal. Silver-trimmed, 18th-century Venetian-style chairs with plush-fabric upholstery, opening onto the outdoor terrace when the weather permits. Serves espresso, snacks, and cocktails.
Recreation
The Lido of Venice, the slender, 11.5-km-long (7.25-mile-long) island facing the Adriatic Sea located a 15-minute waterbus ride east of central Venice, is the city's playground, especially in summer when beaches and watersports draw visitors and Venetians. Year-round, visitors rent bicycles to explore the island, play golf, or take horseback rides. Aside from fishing in the canals, the central city offers little in the way of recreational opportunities. Deep-sea fishing is available in the Adriatic Sea.
The recreational activities listed below are available either on site or near the hotel; fees may apply.

“Very impressed with the Hotel and excellent location.”
Except for maid service, that left much to be desired, the Hotel is an excellent place to stay.
“good quality hotel”
Met by very pleasant helpful staff at reception who immediatly upgraded us to a larger room overlooking the Grand Canal when we mentioned we were visiting for a family wedding. I was a little concerned how I would sleep given that the water taxis stop opposite the hotel but in fact they only run hourly after midnight so it was fine. Breakfasts were generous and I would certainly stay again.
“Loved everything about it”
Wonderful hotel staff throughout - friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about local attractions. Great looking hotel both inside and out and a fabulous location on the Grand Canal.
“perfect location for traveling to and from venice”
i highly recommend this hotel
“Great Place”
The Hotel Carlton on the Grand Canel was as advertised and provided everything claimed. It is so convenient to the Main Train Station (but you must cross a bridge with probably 20 steps up and down) and the Plaza Roma (where you can get a bus from the airport for 3 Euros one-way and only have to deal with 2 small bridges). Also, if you are arriving or departing on a cruise, it is a 10 minute walk to the people mover that will take you to the cruise ship terminal. Remember... this is Venice. Don't expect a cab to take you to your exact location. Our room was clean, comfortable, and European small. Some may be shocked at the small size of the bathroom, but that is what we expected. The hotel-provided breakfast included both hot and cold choices and very quick and efficient services. The hotel also had modern elevators and climate control in the room. My only caution is don't expect to get a view of the canal from every window. Our view was over the interior courtyard. But, again, I can't complain with the what was provided for an exceptional price for a hotel room in Venice in August. I would defintely recommend this hotel to friends.
“We'll definitely stay here again!”
Located directly across from the Santa Lucia train station, it was fairly effortless to haul our luggage over the bridge. The lobby and rooms had an elegant, Old-World charm. The staff spoke a decent amount of English, and with my limited Italin we were able to communicate very well. The rooms are a little on the small side, but this is Italy. A very nice breakfast buffet was provided in the dining area and a ferry was available to go to Murano along with a tour of one of the glass factories. We only spent one night in Venice, but I would have loved to stay longer in this hotel. I highly recommend it!
“Hotel Carlton & Grand Canal”
I have stayed at this hotel 3 times so far and each time I have had great service. I love their breakfast and it is location, you can not go wrong with this hotel. Staff is very friendly and helpful and the rooms are clean. My only suggestion to the hotel which I have already told them, and I was told they are in process of updating, is their door locks. It does not look very secure and you have to carry a key around, I rather have card like most other hotels. Besides that one thing everything else is great about this hotel, would stay there again for sure.
“Great”
Great spot to capture the beauty of the city. It was close to Pisa Roma so there was only a short walk with our luggage. The walking paths were handy to everything.
“Great Place to Stay in Venice”
This is a lovely old hotel, excellently maintained. The room size was a bit small, but we were only in for 2 nights and didn't spend much time in the room anyway. The view on the Grand Canal is great.
“Great hotel for a very reasonable price!”
Enjoyed staying at the Hotel Carlton. Great location overlooking the canal and within walking distance to St Mark's Square and other main attractions. Only 300m from the Piazzale Roma (bus station) so very useful for airport transfers. The rooms were nicely decorated and very clean. Breakfast was excellent with a wide selection of cereals, cooked food and juices to suit all. Overall, I would thoroughly recommend the Hotal Carlton!
