Disliked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities, property conditions & facilities
We knew this would not be a luxury stay but as this is a relatively new building, we thought it would offer the space we needed on this particular trip. However, there is absolutely no pride of ownership here – the gravel parking lot is littered with garbage and worse, most of the hallway light fixtures are missing pieces, and the exterior garbage cans are too filthy and odorous to use. Once in our room, we discovered further examples of lack of care, including broken pieces of window blinds stashed under the window, in two closets, and along the wall; a bathroom towel rack held together by two plastic bags; and a kitchen stove that was too greasy to even contemplate using. While we managed to get the living area to cool down in the evening by opening the balcony door that was clearly labelled “keep closed at all times” the bedroom remained unbearably hot throughout the night. We called the front desk hoping to get some housekeeping service and were hung up on; on the second call the worker agreed to send someone then hung up abruptly.
This property has a lot of potential to provide basic, much-needed accommodation for business and vacation travelers to Yellowknife, but not without some serious TLC and staff training.
