New York City

Take a bite from the Big Apple and you’ll discover a diverse melting-pot which celebrates aspiration and innovation.

New York City is phoenix-like in the face of adversity, always rising bigger and better than before from the ashes of misfortune. Watched over by the Statue of Liberty, whose very presence symbolises hope and freedom, it is a place of non-stop activity and excitement.

Towering skyscrapers like the Empire State Building and the Rockefeller Center show the soaring heights of the city’s ambition as it literally built its way out of economic disaster. Look out across the cityscape from their elevated observation decks and let yourself be swept away by their sheer scale and splendour. Even Grand Central Terminal – New York’s main transport hub – is a work of art!

Visiting World Trade Center Ground Zero is a more humbling experience. This quiet place honours the memory of 9/11 victims and stands as testament to the resilience of New Yorkers.

Much of Manhattan is within easy walking distance, so the flashing lights of Times Square are easily reachable from the Rockefeller Center or Grand Central without having to take public transport. Just down Seventh Avenue, you’ll find the verdant lawns of Central Park. For the best in fresh food, head downtown to Union Square

With so much to see on every corner, walking is a great way to soak up the atmosphere and get the most from your stay. If you do feel a little weary, there are buses and taxis galore along with a sprawling subway network with stops just a few minutes from anywhere you may want to visit.

Manhattan is only one part of the New York Metropolis! The city is split into five boroughs, each with its own unique subculture to discover. Just their names – Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten Island, The Bronx – conjure up a diverse array of sights and sounds.

Grab yourself a pay-as-you-go Metro ticket and jump on the Subway to explore further. Head out towards Brooklyn for a day away at the seaside, riding the rollercoasters and snacking on sweet cotton candy at Coney Island.

There is something for everyone in the swirling streets of New York City. No matter how many times you visit, you will always want to come back for more.
