“Great all-round hotel”

The Canton has plenty of staff, always near the door, elevator etc to greet you, hold a door open or carry your bag. They are well presented, friendly and have a little english. Desk staff and the Business center staff are fine with english. There are 4 restaurants, ranging in price, but none are expensive, although more costly of course than eating at a local eaterie on the street. The nearest Metro is only 10 minutes walk, and Beijing road has many good shops. The hawkers are a nuisance, but go away if you are firm enough. We booked a mini commercial suite on the 26th floor, and it is extremely good value. A good size (by China/HK standards), plenty of lights, large new TV, good shower and as others have noted, a hard bed. We slept fine tho, and the room was very quiet. Free wired LAN internet access in the room was very important and useful for us. The wall power sockets will take plugs with 2 round pins and also plugs with 3 angled flat pins, the same as NZ and Australia, so that made things easy. Voltage is 220. The cleaning staff had virtually no english, and didn't keep the room quite as clean as they might have, but there were no problems. In general all staff at the hotel were very courteous, prompt and eager to please. We would definitely stay again.

“Hidden Gem”

I was extremely happy with the hotel, from the beginning I felt right at home. I currently live and work in Guangzhou, and I wanted to get away from my apartment when my girlfriend came here. The hotel staff is fantastic-many of them speak great english, and will go out of there way to understand you if you speak a little mandarin or cantonese. The Hotel is fabulous, the rooms are comfortable, the staff is very helpful, and the location is unbeatable. From the main entrance of the hotel, you can see down Beijing Street-one of the oldest streets in china. The hotel is only 7 minutes from the metro stop and you are a quick trip to any of Guangzhou's many hotspots. This hotel was well worth the money and more! Exceeds my expectations.

“Better than I thought”

Pros: 1. Hotel is at the northern end of Beijing Rd. So it's a good tourist location. 2. My room had wooden floors, which I liked. 3. Has buses to the Canton Fair 4. For the price I got, it was worth it. It was almost half the price of other comparable hotels. 5. quiet. 6. Free internet connection was fast. Cons: 1. Hard to get a taxi. 2. The desk in my room was small and hard to do some work. 3. The buses to the Fair only ran from 8am to 9:30am. Other hotels that I've stayed at had more buses running. 4. The typical hotel buffet breakfast was expensive and subpar compared to other hotels. 5. The hotel staff's english skills weren't that good. 6. The room had I was clean but the bed sheets and couch seemed a little worn down. 7. Had only 1 english channel on the television.

“Great location”

This hotel located in the heart of the city of Guangzhou, Beijing Rd. 5 minutes' walk to the subway station, and the room is big and clean.

“WILL GO BACK”

THIS HOTEL LOCATED IN A GOOD SHOPPING AREA WITH LOTS OF RESTAURANTS NEARBY. EASILY ACCESSED TO MTR. HOTEL SERVICE IS SATISFACTORY AND THE ROOM IS CLEAN AND COMFORTABLE WITH ALL NECESSITIES. REASONABLE PRICE,HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO MY FRIENDS

“central location”

central location for shopping in the beijing road area of the city. as in all hotels staff sruggle with english. so much so that they told the taxi driver the wrong railway station and ihad troble getting the driver to understand that we wanted the other station and for him to take us there. the reception for the hotel is on the second floor and is spacious and the staff helpful. the rooms were large and clean and with free internet access. firm beds soft pillows. the swimming pool looked popular with guests and had a good design although i did not use it myself. no coffee in the room only tea i would return to this hotel again and would hsve no trouble in recommending it

“Excellent value for money”

The Canton Hotel is located within walking distance to Beijing Lu the main shopping strip and the excellent Guangzhou Metro . It offers value for money food choices with the lower basement Food Street as well an excellent more upmarket Chinese restaurant offering dim sum and Chinese breakfast specialities. The Health Club has the best massage facilities. The only complaint I have is their insistence on holding a deposit against any costs incurred in restaurants etc. and then refusing service if you have reached the maximum amount against the deposit. A strange practice especially since most hotels automatically add any costs to your bill which is paid on check out. Worse still, you are treated like someone who might do "a runner" and face hostility until you top up your deposit.. Otherwise, pleasant service, quiet rooms and easy access to most places via the metro.

“very friendly hotel”

I found the staff very friendly. I can not speak any Chinesse. and i had no trouble conunicating with them. I will stay here again Thank you.

“Okay if no other options”

I stayed at this hotel since my plans were made at the last minute and it was the only option. The prices for all hotels in Guangzhou (and Hong Kong for that matter) are ridiculously priced during the Canton Fair... The staff was friendly and paid fair attention. The hotel was ok - the room was a good size, the paint and decor were outdated. The matress was the hardest brick I have ever slept (or attempted to sleep) on. I have spent over 100 days in China this year alone and have never had such a hard mattress. I would only recommend this hotel if there were no other options in the area.

“Business Travel”

The hotel was located within 5 blocks of a major shopping district and more importantly western style food.(McDonalds, KFC, etc.) The rooms are clean and although the staff tried to be helpful expect a language barrier, there was very few English speaking staff members. An example was the laundry service, they offered a great in house laundry service without a way to communicate a price or delivery day. Except for the shopping district the hotel was not located near any upscale restaurants or entertainment. Except to take a taxi to any of these places. The only two complaints were the air conditioning and mattresses. The staff turned the air conditioning off when they cleaned the room resulting in a long period of time to cool the room back down. The mattresses could have been a piece of plywood with a sheet over it. In all fairness I found this to be the norm in hotels in Honk Kong, Macai and Tapai. Overall I would recommend the hotel based on the price.
