"5 star hotel with 1 star service. There are no humans at this hotel, you check in using an iPad and they are extremely inflexible and unhelpful for things like dropping bags off so you can go and enjoy the day in Hakone. Aside from the service and terrible check in process the hotel was fantastic with unbelievable views and a great onsen in the room."

"Really neat old hotel with a lot of history. The spa area was really nice and rooms were clean. There wasn’t much interaction with staff. There were people staying there just didn’t seem like the service was the priority. On our second morning it was really odd they couldn’t seat us for breakfast at 7:45 and we had to wait. This made us late for our driver to leave for the day. Overall it was just ok."

"This was one of the best relaxation hotels that we ever stayed. Everything was beyond our expectations and indeed impressed us. Right from check in where the staff was very friendly and helpful and patiently explaining the premises. One of them accompanied us to our room and explained everything to us on the way as well as inside the room. The room was spacious, well equipped, and the view to the mountain was breath taking (West Building on 6th floor). The hot tub on the terrace was an amazing experience (be careful with the hot water and its temperature; 41c was set for us). The "Free Flow" lounge was indeed fantastic including the snacks, deserts, as well as variety of drinks from ginger ale and tonic soda all the way to red/white wines, number of Japanese whisky, as well as Sake. We put Hakone and this hotel intentionally as the last leg of our 2 week trip to Japan so that we could relax before flying back to Canada."

"This was an amazing stay. The room was immaculate and clean. All amenities were in perfect working order. The food was top tier. The bus stop was right next to the building. I highly recommend checking it out if you plan on visiting Hakone."

"The private outdoor onsen was great . But the rooms were kind of old and some of the closets were stuffed with irrelevant things that look dirty. Some of the staff were not attentive or not capable."
