“Slice of paradise”
The Wailoloa Beach Marriott near Kona is large enough to offer numerous amenities, yet not so big that you need a map to find your way around (as in the nearby Hilton). Staff was friendly, helpful, and professional. Our room was quiet, clean, and comfortable. The variety of pools and easy access to the beach made the whole family happy. We saw turtles from the beach! Good location to leeward side of the island attractions. Would definitely stay at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott again and again!
“Nice!”
Everything about this hotel was fine, except the wireless Internet access, which was only available in common areas and was unreliable. The beach and pool areas were great. The one restaurant on-site was expensive, but had a pre-6PM two-for-one special.
“Great Big Island Hotel”
This is one of the nicest Marriots I've seen. It is truly beachfront, and the beach itself is great for sunning, swimming, snorkeling and checking out local wildlife (we saw giant sea turtles, interesting fish, birds and coral). Also- the grounds of the hotel are beautiful, including great swimming pools and hot tubs. The breakfast bar is expensive but more varied and of somewhat higher quality than the usual Marriot fare. The room felt a little small (we didn't care) but was nicely appointed. For those who are interested, there is a mid-tier stripmall style shopping center including several decent restaurants within walking distance, none authentically Hawaiian, but convenient nonetheless. If you want to see the sites of the Big Island, you have to rent a car, in which case this hotel is equally close to (or far from) the main ones: Volcanoes, Hilo, Mauna Kea Observatories, the various beaches and the lush eastside of the island where there are some great hikes. We didn't mind the driving but it was necessary from here if that's a turn off. If you want a pure resort experience, you can definitely have it here. I will stay here again if we visit Hawaii (island) again.
“Second triip to Hawaii”
My boyfriend and I had previously traveled to Kona and had stayed at the Hilton. This time we decided to try something different. While the Hilton Waikoloa was great the rooms were dated. Imagine our surprise when we went to the Marriott. The property was beautiful! The rooms were clean and modern. The spa was awesome! Best of all they have a beach! Our room rate included breakfast which turned out to be a great savings and the food choices were awesome! The staff at the Marriott was always friendly and helpful. In addition, the hotel is so close to the Queens and Kings shop that you can simply take a leisure walk toward them. We will definitely go back to the Marriott and have recommended the property to several of our friends and family.
“Loved it”
We visited from July 6 to July 13 and loved it. The grounds are great and the view and beach are wonderful. There is great snorkeling with many sea turtles near the rocks on each side of the bay, in easy walking distance. It may not have had enough to do at the hotel for my 14 year old son, but I don't know if the hotel is to blame (Teenager attitude!). The room was fine, but best of all was the location. Great beach, in walking distance to fast food places and other restaurants and hops. We will be back again.
“Absolutely nice”
I have nothing to complain about to tell you that we have stayed at the hotel for 5 days. Everything here was perfect.
“A trip of a lifetime”
We had a wonderful time. The island was beautiful and the hotel was perfect. We stayed in a 6th floor room away from the pool area and it was paradise. Thr views wer incredible. We snokeled everyday. It is best to get a rental car so you can travel around the island at your leisure. We would love to go back and this hotel is in a perfect location to shops and food.
“Can't wait to go back”
Great hotel and great breakfast!!! Loved the 3 pools and hot tubs. The rooms were very clean and bed was so comfortable!
“Will stay there again next time.”
Very nice hotel. Their beds were very comfortable to sleep in. Staff are very friendly. Walking distance to shops and food places. We were very satisfied with the stay and would return again. Highly recommended!
“Beautiful Sunsets every night”
This was my second stay at this hotel and I can't wait to make reservations for another trip. Even though the hotel has a renovation project underway, it in no way interferred with the comfort and enjoyment of my stay. The staff was attentive with their service and if anything, having fewer guests provided for more attention (if you wanted). With A-Bay fronting the hotel, there was an opportunity to snorkel every day and to see a beautiful sunset every night. Kids of all ages will love watching the turtles that live in the bay. The mandatory daily hotel fee actually pays for itself if you make sure to read the quarter sheet of paper listing your freebies - internet service, valet parking, mai tais, etc...
