“Great Hotel; Great Location”
This is my 6th trip to London, and this was one of the better hotels I've stayed at. The room was clean, the staff friendly, no issues with heating/cooling, and in a nice quiet location. As many others have said, the hotel is almost literally right across the street from St. James tube station and right down the street from Westminster Abbey and Parliament; so it is a great place to stay as far as getting around the City and Westminster. Although we didn't eat in the pub on the ground floor, it looked nice and the prices seemed reasonable (for London). I would certainly stay at this hotel again. The one complaint I have was with the wake-up calls we requested. On both ocassions during our stay when we requested wake-up calls, both times the calls were made much later than we requested (on one occassion, 30 minutes late).
“Great location, very nice stay”
The location was wonderful - we were 2 blocks away from Westminster Abbey, and easily within walking distance of tube stations and other sights. We stayed there twice during our trip, and one of the rooms we had was a bit small, but still perfect if you're planning on spending most of your time out seeing the sights anyway. Bathrooms were very nice and clean, and the air conditioning was powerful enough to deal with a mid-July heat wave. The pub downstairs is nice, and not too noisy. Overall a very enjoyable stay, and economical since we got our reservations on Expedia (without the Expedia deal it would have been fairly expensive).
“Great hotel value in the heart of the city.”
This hotel has a great location in the heart of London. It is just a couple of blocks from Westminster Abbey, but on a quiet side street. The hotels was clean and comfortable and the staff was very helpful. There is a pub downstairs for a continental breakfast or dinner and/or drinks in the evening. I would stay here again.
“We loved this hotel”
This hotel was very nice. Our room was spotlessly clean, roomy, and quiet. The beds had wonderful down comforters which were really comfortable. The staff was helpful, and the location couldn't have been better. The pub downstairs had good food, but was extremely smokey in the evenings. Other reviews have indicated the rooms and building were plain, but we felt our room was nicely decorated, and the pub and public areas of the hotel were very charming. We highly recommend this hotel!
“Location, location, location...and a nice room”
Within a two block walk of the Tube (St. James) and the Westminster bus (catch Line 24 on nearby Victoria Street) which runs 24 hours a day, Sanctuary House makes a great base of operations for visiting London. And there's a post office with a stamp machine just a block away from the Tube station. The hotel boasts comfortable beds and pillows, excellent plumbing, and new furniture. And you'll find all the little nicities you'd expect: lots of fluffy towels, a hair dryer, trouser press, writing/vanity area, complementary toiletries, and a beverage caddy with cookies and a choice of tea, coffee or hot chocolate. The floors in the room are a bit creaky and the elevator is small and noisy, but the rooms themselves are quiet. You rarely hear anyone in the hallway, and unless you open your window you don't hear noise from outside. (But do open your window so you can hear Big Ben chime the hour.) There are several reasonably priced cafes closeby for breakfast and lunch, but no restaurants for dinner, only loud smoky pubs. However a short bus ride will take you over to the restaurant area. The hotel doesn't have a lounge to gather in, just a small area by reception, but don't plan on meeting up in the tavern/pub downstairs -- it was too smoky even for a smoker like me.
“best location”
We just loved this hotel, it was our first trip to London and we were so happy with how close we were to everything. Just minutes from buckingham palace, westminster abbey and big ben. We would go back.
“This hotel was a true find”
My 5 nights at this hotel were very comfortable. The restaurant was pleasant, the food was good and reasonable and as congenial as every good pub should be. The hotle decor and amenities met all of my expectations. I will certainly stay here again.
“Recommended”
This hotel is in a great location. It is a block and a half from a tube station, walking distance to Westminster Abbey, and on a quiet street. The pub downstairs is convenient and not touristy. We'll definitely stay here again the next time we go to London.
“Great small hotel close to many London Attractions/Pub on ground floor is reasonable with good food”
Highly recommended!!! Very Friendly and helpful staff. Recently refurbished hotel is very clean with all necessary amenities. Price is very reasonable for London especially considering the location. Fuller's Ale and Pie Pub on the ground floor offers very good food with reasonable prices. Great Location!!! We are both over 60 and walked to Buckingham Palace for the Changing of the Guard, toured the Royal Mews, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and Parliament, #10 Downing Street, The Hourse Guard Review, Trafalgar Square, the Mellinnial Eye and St. James Park in one day. St. James Park underground Tube station is very close providing easy access to the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, St. Paul's Cathedral, and all other attractions which are not within walking distance.
“Great place to stay!”
Comfortable, clean, attractive older hotel one block away from Westminster Abbey and from the St. James's Park tube stop. Very accomodating staff who eagerly fulfilled our requests. Nice to have a pub with good food right on the premises.
