“As Expected”
This hotel was clean and had very COLD AC. The rooms were above average for the average price with basic amenities. The staff was friendly and very prompt in service. The area is busy with gas stations, other hotels, walmart and fast food chains, which makes for a comfortable and convenient stay (not a secluded area). There is a train track behind the hotel, however, with the AC on "high" you drown out the sound twice a night. I would definitely use this hotel again for a future stay.
“Needs improvements”
Hotel Review: Even though this hotel says it is non-smoking, the room smelled of smoke, as did the hotel lobby (just smelled dirty, and windows were terribly dirty and gross, not cleaned often), plus the air conditioner was apart on the floor and non-functional (a problem in late August). We waited an hour for another room, and we still needed towels (which we never received, even after re-requesting them the following morning; they were apparently taken to the wrong room). The second room did smell better than the first (except for the stench of bleach coming from the bathroom). Also, the ice machine did not work (also a problem in late August). At 9:00 a.m., we proceeded to the lobby for the continental breakfast, which was not there. They stopped it at 9:00 a.m., a fact which would have been nice to know the night before. However, they did get us some bagels and donuts anyway. We were going to just sit down and eat a hot breakfast at the in-house restaurant, but it's apparently not open at all on Sundays (again, another fact better known the night before). Strange for a hotel business not to have the restaurant open half the weekend. Not my worst experience, but by far not the best. Although the hotel clerk did give us a small discount, that really does not seem like enough. For what I would really expect to pay a cheap motel for, it was 3x that much money. They really need to do a lot, though, to bring this hotel up to even a 2-star standard.
“"Upgrades needed"”
We like to stay at hotels that have restaurants, for convience. That is the main reason we booked Magnusons, because it advertised restaurant and lounge. What it failed to advertise is that they were closed indefinitely. Right away we were upset. Location and appearance of the hotel was very good. However, our room smelled, and was dirty. There was no toilet paper. Linens were rough and scratchy, especially the towels. Since Marion is my home town and I have many relatives there, we visit and stay in the hotels. Next time, we will look at one of the other hotel options.
