“Traditional and exotic riad”
This is easily my favourite place I've ever stayed at. A traditional riad decorated incredibly tastefully in deep reds on white with exotic feeling dark, carved furniture. Little touches like flower heads being left to float in the water feature really set the place off. The location is good (10 mins from the main square, 5 mins from a smaller one). Courtyard is amazing with trees in it and plenty of soft furnishing. The roof terrace, where breakfast is served, has amazing views of the atlas mountains on a clear day. Perhaps not for everyone though. A very gritty, urban area which may make some feel uncomfortable (but then maybe Marrakech isn't for you) but it's very safe and has lots of character to the area. Due to the design of the door between the bathroom and the room it didn't give you much privacy when sharing the room (perhaps not for new couples - we resorted to kicking each other out into courtyard when we needed a little bit more privacy or using the separate, shared 'prive'). No locks on the doors is a bit odd, but a safe is provided. Feels like a safe hotel but I was glad that I didn't take my netbook. Definitely would recommend to friends.
“Superb Riad”
Excellent first impressions with the striking red and black theme. We walked into peace and tranquility from the busy street and could not believe that there was absolutely no street noise, not even from the roof terrace! Lovely staff, especially Mohammed who spoke good English and couldn't do enough for us. The room was very clean, the bed and pillows were the most comfortable we had experienced during our trip and the roof top pool was very welcome in temperatures of 35+ degrees. The only criticism would be that the breakfast was basic compared to those we had further south. The main square and the Souks were only about 15-20 minutes walk from the Riad and an easy route. Thierry organised an early breakfast for us and a taxi to the airport on departure day. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone wishing to receive first class hospitality within the Medina and would definitely return if visiting Marrakech in future. Thanks to all the staff for making our stay so memorable, especially Mohammed
“La Maison Rouge”
A Riad not an hotel. The staff are great and the owner too. Advise taking taxi to and from the riad to get into the center, although not necessary if you are quick on your feet, traffic comes at you from everywhere. Breakfast all home made and plenty of it, eat as much as you like. The staff are so helpful and I was amazed at their grasp of our language. We went round the jewish area, only open to visitors on a Friday, worth a visit just to make you realize how lucky westeren people are.
“Great experience”
Staying in a riad is a great way to experience Marrakech. This one is great - lovely place, lovely rooms, relaxing terrace, very helpful Manager, just a bit of a hairy walk to the main square and souks ! Raid does offer car service from airport but its only a pre booked normal taxi and works out quite pricey. Would suggestfinding a taxi when you arrive for about 100 - 150 MAD. Just have the address ready.
“Better than expected!”
Lovely riad with very efficient staff. Our room (the only room on the roof terrace) was air-conditioned but not sure if this is the case for all rooms. Breakfast was pretty good and the help yourself system at the bar was a bonus. However, the riad is pretty difficult to find in the maze of small streets in the southern medina so be prepared to have lots of offers from locals (in exchange for money, of course!) to help you find your way back in the evenings.
“A wonderful escape”
From the moment we arrived until we departed, our stay at La Maison Rouge fulfilled expectations. The hotel was very well kept with a lovely courtyard and charming rooms. The rooftop had a nice patio with lounge chairs and breakfast was served up here in the sunshine. Fresh squeezed orange juice and mint tea were our favorite beverages. Location - It was a little bit difficult to locate - we got lost twice trying to find our way back the first night from dinner, but that is part of the charm of Marrakesh! It is tucked away off a little square, and is a 10-15 minute walk to the restaurants / souks for shopping. Will stay here again on our next visit to Marrakesh!
“Great few days away”
Very well run Riad. Staff there if and when you need them. Well situated for local tourist attractions. We specifically chose this Riad as it was not in the hotel cluster elsewhere. Pleasant room, very comfortable.
“lovely”
A lovely Riad with the benefit of a small rooftop pool
“30th March-2nd April. Very relaxed, calm riad.”
We had a very pleasent stay at the La Maison Rouge between 30th March - 2 April 2012. Upon arrival we where a little worried about the place as the exteriour doesnt seem to offer much, but once you step inside it is a whole other story. Very relaxed place and very tranquil. A great place to retire to after the hussle of the streets. We found the location to be a little awkward, with about a 10 min walk to the squire, and where it wasnt the distance that was the issue, but the road that you had to take to get to the squire not having pavements for the first 1/4 mile, so you are forced to walk along a very manic, busy road. So not great for kids. But fine for adults. However you shouldnt be put off by this, because anywhere else would have been to close to the square and therefor very noisey. We stayed in a Junior suite, and i would say that is a must, as we had a peak at the normal rooms, and they did look a little on the small side, We're not even sure if they had there own bathhrooms in them. Tho dont quote me on this. The staff and manager where a great help, and went out of there way to help, Inc booking us onto a camel trek with no fuss at all. All in all, with Marrakech being a very intense, uncompromising city. To have a relaxed calm Riad to retire to is a must, and i doubt you'll find many more relaxing then the La Maison Rogue. Why stay in a hotel when you can experiance a riad??
“Location”
Near to the centre of the old town of Marrakech (15 mins walk). Quiet location. Not ideal if you want to go to the New Town.
