“I great place to enjoy a vacation.”
We enjoyed the food and the place. I will recommend to others and I will go there again.
“Beautiful resort”
GREAT PLACE FOR VACATION, CLEAN, RELAXING, SAFE, FOOD, SERVICE, EMPLOYEES, ALL GREAT!!!
“Occidental Staff”
Paula and Raul at the front desk were great! Very friendly and courteous! You've got to see Hector at the Tour Desk. He's great and will tell you all about how to get around town. The wait staff and servers in the Buffet restaurant were excellent.
“Early March trip”
Nice vacation, staff friendly and the royal club was worth the little extra. We avoided time share pressure. Excellent service at royal club restaurant. Beautiful beach.
“Good value at an all inclusive beach resort”
This is an all incusive resport so all meals and drinks are incuded and very plentiful. The meals which were served at buffets, were quite good. The specialty restaurants (Italian and Mexican) were only fair. The biggest drawback of the rooms is that they did not have balconies. The pool was sometimes a little crowded and noisy (they often played loud music), but the beach was nice. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. Overall the resort was a nice place for a beach vacation and was very reasonably priced.
“Puerto Vallarta Occidental Hotel”
Buffet food was exceptional. Speciality restaurants were just OK. Staff was very accommodating. There are no balconies. Rooms are a bit small.
“Overall nice...since we got a really good price”
Overall, the facility is very nice and clean. Food was average to good. Shows were a little better than the reviews I read prior to the trip. We went a couple of weeks after spring break, and there were no crowds. The young man who took us to the desk for 'orientation' at check-in was nice, but I had to cut him off from the long speech. We had just driven five hours, and were hungry. The bellman also wanted to be overly-helpful (nothing short of showing us how to turn the bed down). Again, cut him off, gave him tip, said thanks.
“Training wheels needed”
They are just not ready for prime time. Just finishing up on construction, their staff is still on the learning curve. The food is just so-so. Not bad, but just not that good. Staff really does not get what the meaning of going the extra mile means. They seem to live by the book, looking for the answers instead of knowing the answers. Rooms are on the small side and the big disappointment is that there are no balconies. With all the other hotels available, I don't think we will be back.
“Not the worst experience, but not the best.”
You can tell this hotel is still trying to find it's "groove." I think it just reopened in December. When we first arrived in the middle of the week of March 2012, the staff was attentive and our cups were always full. Once more people arrived (spring breakers) you can tell they were understaffed and scrambling to take care of everyone. I was a little disappointed with the food. Was expecting to eat more Mexican dishes, but they only provided it one night out of the week. The best food we ate was at Los Olivos and Lahacienda, but unfortunately we were only able to make reservations for two nights out of our 6 night stay. A lot of the food at the buffet was overcooked, especially the sea food. It would be nice to also have some sort of game room/rec room for people to hang out at, because after they nightly show, thats it. If you don't drink, you just go to bed. Other than that, the rooms were clean and staff was friendly. I'd probably recommend this hotel to a friend next year, when they figure out what they need to fix. When we were there, they were still doing construction around the hotel and adding little touches here and there.
