“Great Location”
The location of this hotel is extremely convenient between Ipanema and Copacabana beach. The rooms are clean and the breakfast buffet OK. When you book your room make sure to ask for one located on the back side of the hotel, though, as the ones facing towards the street are very noisy.
“Cheap n Cheerful n Great Location”
Some reviews for this place are pretty bad - some things probably merited, some not. But let's be honest...the reason you're reading this review is because you're looking for pleasant / affordable accomodation in expensive Rio...and this hotel offers that in droves. It is cheap by Rio standards, the rooms are a decent size (the X01s), the breakfast is generous and the location is excellent. Add to that they are currently renovating the rooms on all 6 floors which should make for a big aesthetic improvement. It ain't the Ritz, but it's a decent budget find.
“Not feeling welcomed!”
1. water dripping from the upper floor's air-conditioner to mine, making annoying sound makes us couldn't sleep at night! 2. mattress extremely uncomfortable, it's a must to be replaced! 3. unfriendly hotel staffs, except the night watchman. 4. drinking water from the breakfast buffet, is not an original bottled water, but a refill from the tap water.
“Not a good experience”
Hotel Fee at the time of booking through Expedia indicated all Taxes included but Cristal Palace Hotel charged 15% tax. Hotel management was not friendly. Bath room has water drainage problem. Not worth for the money paid. TV channels not showing anything other than sales advertizement for gemstones.
“Only if you really need a budget hotel.”
The hotel is very well located, it is relatively well priced for Rio (but expensive compared to any other place) and the staff pleasant, but it is fairly run down. It was also fairly noisy - unfortunately, mostly from the staff using service rooms on my floor who were fairly loud at all times of the early morning and during the day. All of that said, they seemed to be doing some work to upgrade the hotel a bit so it may be worth a try in future.
