This All-Inclusive resort is part of the Playacar resorts complex and is located within 3 km (2 mi) of the Playacar Golf Course and downtown Playa del Carmen. Guests have exchange privileges at Riu Playacar, Riu Tequila, and Riu Lupita, including complimentary entrance to and drinks at La Piñata (a nightclub at Riu Tequila). The Riu Yucatan has 2 outdoor pools, a children's pool, sauna, fitness equipment, and several dining options on site. Babysitting services are available on request for a surcharge. Guests can take advantage of 90 minutes complimentary wireless internet in the lobby. Additional internet access is available throughout the hotel at a surcharge. Spa services and shopping are available on site.
Daytime activities are offered for younger guests age 4-12, and a separate set of activities cater to adult guests. Live music and evening entertainment is offered daily.
Just outside the entrance to the resort is Mexican Street, where guests will find a fitness center, a medical center, jewelry shops, a photo studio and lab.

The Riu Yucatan's 507 guestrooms are distributed across two floors. Rooms have balconies or patios, fireplaces, replenished minibars and liquor dispensers, and TVs with cable. Suites have separate living rooms and shower/tub combinations in the bathroom. Wireless Internet access is available (surcharge).

Guests of the Riu Yucatan receive one complimentary introductory scuba lesson in the pool. On-site recreational opportunities include an outdoor pool with an island and spa tub, children's pool, and fitness equipment. Water sports equipment includes catamarans, windsurfers, and kayaks.
The 18-hole Playacar Golf Course (surcharge) is located 1 km (0.5 mi) from the Riu Yucatan. Guests receive recreational exchange privileges at Riu Playacar, Riu Tequila, and Riu Lupita. A complimentary fitness room is located on nearby Mexican Street.

“Unforgetable vacation”
Both my wife and I loved Riu Yucatan,the food and drinks were excelent. the hotel and hotel guest were so nice and friendly,we highly recommend others to visit Playa Del Carmen,Riu Yucatan,Cancun. The beach was great awesome blue clear water,beautiful palm trees and lots of people from around the world,we met this great couple from the UK,Terry and Kim lovely couple,had a great time hanging out with them. Already planning our next vacation for next year,plan on going back to Playa Del Carmen,hope to see ya'll there thanks for the great get away vacation....... Chris & Nancy, Abernathy,Tx.
“Great Stay Right on Beach Highly Recommend”
We are already talking about returning to the RIU Yucatan. We had a blast. It's got a jungle atmosphere with really pretty property. Bring lots of OFF. I was on the most beautiful beach I have seen in awhile, tons of chairs on the beach (pool is crowded, get up early to claim spot), but the 2 swim up pool bars are awesome. The staff works incredibly hard, and they are always cleaning and doing maintenance. You will really enjoy yourself here! It is a 3 1/2 star, don't expect the Four Seasons, but it is really nice if you just want to kick back and relax with some Dos Equis beer in an all inclusive. Ask for a mattress pad, beds are hard. It's about a 40 min. ride from the airport, in a secured hotel zone, very safe. This hotel is right on the beach too! Unlike the Tequila or the Lupita. You can hotel hop to these hotels and the Playacar, not palaces, and I highly recommend you do that. The food was decent, and the restaurants were surprisingly good, although you do have to get up early to try to get a seating which are at 6:45 or 8:45pm. you must take a taxi to the center of town Playa. $5 one way and it's like 6 minutes away. I wouldn't walk. It's totally worth it. Great shops, bars, and restaurants. You can buy a beer for $1 and walk around with it. Cheap souvenirs, and very safe. Tons of people. Shops close at 10:30pm. Have fun! You will love it!
“we were upgraded to the Riu Palace!”
While the Yucatan next door was nice, we only had one drink over there. We were so lucky! Upon check in at the Yucatan, we were upgraded to the Riu Palace!
“exceeded our hotel expectations in this price range ....would definetly go back”
We booked a 14 day trip in feb.2010 to playa del carmen to escape our canadian winter..We chose the riu yucatan based primarily based on our desire for hopefully getting a hotel that would be a great place to vacation without being too upscale or breaking our bank account--we were not disappointed---using the services of expedia.com we got a great price,actually cheaper then previous hotels of far lower quality that we have used in dominican republic and mexico..We pre-booked a private car from the airport for the same rate as a cab ride .The riu yucatan turned out to be everything that we had hoped for-- GREAT buffet food --premium bar drinks--casual atmosphere--great staff--VERY clean rooms and grounds..The exchange priviliges with the other riu resorts was great --nice to go for a beach walk and be able to stop off for a cool drink down the beach ..we had a great stay at the riu yucatan and would definetly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a resort that caters to you as their guest without pretentious airs..very casual atmosphere...john&phyllis...british columbia..canada
“This was our second stay”
We stayed here in 2007 for our wedding, and all guests of our wedding also stayed. Everyone had a good stay. Only complaint was sewer smell in our room. We stayed here again in August 2011. We also brought along 8 friends. Everyone had a great stay. The staff is wonderful, the rooms and food are good. Only complaint is the beds are a little hard, but nothing horrible.
“Happy in Yucatan”
We were very pleased with staff,room,food,pool and beach. Only thing lacking was night time entertainment such as dancing/dj though family shows available.
“top hotel for the hurricane season”
In our particular case we were very positively impressed about how the impact of hurricane Dean was managed. The hotel staff but also the hotel structure proved to have the situation fully under control.
“Very nice beaches”
And the hotel was great too! Plenty of fun and since we were not in our room much, except to 'sleep' and change clothes, it was excellent! Beds were very hard. But other than that, everything was great.

I would like to preface this by saying be aware of where you are going - it is Mexico, it is not a rich country, the beds are going to be hard and you aren't staying at the Ritz. That said, we loved it! The rooms were clean and cool despite the heat outside, water bottles stocked daily, adorable towel animals! And of course the pool and beach areas were just gorgeous and plenty of places to grab a drink! Loved the breakfast and dinner buffets, there was quite a variety even if you ate there every night. If you are like me a burn easily -grab a spot in the shade early, there are only two shady areas on the beach and a few by the pool...we always managed to find two chairs though. They cleaned the beach amazingly well every day, and the whole staff was very helpful in giving us restaurant recommendations, general information, etc. Definitely ask them or one of the Best Day tour guys for information. We didn't even make it to the other resorts in the complex because we didn't need to, they came to ours! It is also very convenient to Playa and Cozumel which were great, even if a little crowded for my taste. I loved the Riu and would go back in a heartbeat!
“Can't wait to go back”
The resort was very well kept, staff very friendly and eager to wait on you. Lots of activities during the day and water sports right on the beach. Beach and the ocean were beautiful and so clean. Food was always available at the Margarita's snack buffet if you're hungry in between meals. This is a great place if you don't mind a crowded beach. Husband and I, and 3 sons ages 18-24 loved it!!
