“Great Hotel”
Good location. Good condition. Best!
“Better than expected.”
Pleasant,comfortable and clean hotel in central location with Metro at front door and provision of complimentary travel pass allowing travel on Metro and buses.No complimentary tea/coffee in room however.
“Pleasant stay for good value”
This hotel was lovely. We had a nice, large room that comfortably fit three adults. The bathroom was clean and the beds were wonderful. The location is fantastic, right in the city centre, about 5 min walk to the city cathedral and we had a fantastic view of the city. It was a bit loud on Friday night but not unbearably so. Hotel City is a great value, especially in an expensive city like Lausanne!
“OK for a short stay”
Hotel City is centrally located in the old part of Lausanne right off the M2 metro line (Bessieres stop). You can easily access any part of the city from here either by foot or metro. The hotel itself is a little run down and tired. The primary reason why my group stayed here because we needed a hotel that could accomodate 3 people in one room. The staff was a little unfriendly every time we encountered them at the front desk, but the hotel was just right for one night given it's location and for the price and the views we had from the room on the 5th floor.
“Perfect location”
The location was very good. We walked from the main train station to the hotel, which was about 15 minutes but one could take a metro and be right at the hotel in 5 minutes. Hotel also provided us with public transportation cards when we checked in. The room was spacious but a little old style. However, it was clean, warm and the sheets were good.
“Fine choice”
Close to center city, reasonably inexpensive, clean, and well-appointed. Not too noisy. No real cons, except for no parking, and a weird entrance area.
“average”
The hotel is very close to downtown, on a tourist route. Other than that, everything was average, except the price which was probably a little high for the conditions. They don't have parking onsite which might be inconvenient for some. I would probably go back if I didn't have better options.
“80's boudoir”
The hotel was under going external decoration when I stayed in Lausanne. My retrospective thoughts were that it would have been wiser to update the internal decor of the hotel first. The service and assistance of the staff were excellent, however if you do not speak any French, communication can be more difficult. The interior can only be described as though the hotel had never emerged from the 80's mixed with a saucy version of Amsterdam's night life. With red leopard print carpets adorning every spare piece of flooring and pink tiled bathroom suites this hotel is dangerously close to slipping into the twilight zone. With only one plug in each bedroom and bed clothes that you have to cover with your own clothes before you can get a good nights sleep, I would definitely never recommend this hotel.
“Expensive”
For what I paid I felt the hotel was expensive for a small single room. The bed was fitted (just) at the end of the L-shaped bedroom with a wall down one side and no extra space at top or bottom - I found it a little short because I am quite tall at 1m93. The room fridge did not work, the shower (over bath) fittings leaked and the shampoo came in sachets. Having said that the hotel is central and clean and the staff are friendly. But it would be reasonable value if 30% cheaper. Oh and breakfast was extra. Next time I will try to find somewhere else.
“12CHF for internet!!!”
It used to be £3 for wireless internet. Now £5-£6 is getting more common. But 12CHF (£8) is just getting rediculous!!! Not impressed!!! Oh, and the breakast is nice, with a view over the cathedral... If you are prepared to pay 20CHF for the simplest tea and Toast version of breakfast.... What a rip off!! Can Expedia start warning us about the cost of these extras?? Its getting to the stage where breakfast and internet is becoming as expensive as the room!!
