What you can expect

  • This private day trip is for travellers with only one day who want to see both of Jordan's most famous places: the rock-cut city of Petra and the red desert of Wadi Rum. It is a long day, about 16 hours, with your own car and English-speaking driver from start to finish.

    Your driver choices you up at your Amman hotel at around 06:00 and drives south on the Desert Highway. At about 09:30 you reach Petra and have 3 to 4 hours to explore on your own: walk the Siq to the Treasury, then continue past the Street of Facades and the Royal Tombs, with time for lunch at a local cafe. A licensed guide inside Petra can be added on request.

    In the early afternoon you drive about 2 hours south to Wadi Rum. A local Bedouin driver takes you on a 4x4 jeep tour among red dunes, rock bridges and the canyons used to film Lawrence of Arabia and The Martian. As the sun sets, you stop at a viewpoint for sage tea brewed over a fire.

    After sunset you drive back to Amman and arrive at your hotel at around 22:00.
