Begin your journey from your Cape Town hotel or directly from the airport, heading east towards one of the finest safari experiences within reach of the city. Named after the ancient supercontinent that existed over 500 million years ago, Gondwana Game Reserve offers a thrilling and authentic wildlife adventure. As you enter the reserve, you're immediately greeted by zebras and herds of antelope roaming freely across the landscape—an exciting prelude to the game drives ahead. The 4-hour drive from Cape Town is a memorable experience in itself, taking you through the rolling hills of the Cape Fold Belt and the golden grain fields of the Overberg region, often referred to as South Africa’s breadbasket.

Upon arrival at Gondwana, you'll be welcomed and checked into your private lodge. After settling in, enjoy a delicious lunch at the main lodge with sweeping views of the reserve. The afternoon is yours to unwind—relax on your deck, take in the sights and sounds of the bush, or enjoy the lodge amenities. As the sun begins to set, embark on your first evening game drive in search of Africa’s iconic Big Five. With expert rangers leading the way, you'll experience the thrill of the wild as nocturnal creatures come to life. After the drive, return to the lodge for a bit of downtime before sitting down to a hearty, all-inclusive dinner under the African stars.
Day 2: Gondwana to Mossel Bay (return)

Your second day at Gondwana begins with an early morning game drive—an ideal time to witness the bush come to life. The cool dawn hours often reveal the untold stories of the night before: fresh predator tracks near your lodge, the remains of a kill, or the haunting calls of nocturnal animals retreating into the shadows. This is when the wilderness is most raw and revealing. As you traverse the reserve, your experienced guide will share insights into the unique geology, wildlife, and rich biodiversity of Gondwana’s fynbos-covered landscape. There will be ample opportunities to take stunning photographs, from golden sunrises to close encounters with wildlife. Midway through the drive, you’ll pause to enjoy steaming coffee or tea out in the bush, soaking in the serenity of the African wilderness. After about two hours, you'll return to the lodge for a well-deserved, hearty breakfast.
Mossel Bay

After breakfast, you will be taken on an enjoyable short scenic drive to Mossel Bay, just 30 minutes from Gondwana. This charming coastal town is steeped in history and offers a perfect blend of culture, views, and seaside relaxation. You may be interested in visiting South Africa’s oldest post office, a historical landmark that traces back to the early European explorers. Then Bartolomeu Dias Museum is also one of the fascinating attractions of Mossel bay, many visitors' comes here to witness the life-size replica of the ship that brought Dias on his pioneering voyage around the tip of Africa. The St. Blaize Lighthouse is also a good stop for panoramic views of the town. Afterwards, unwind on the town’s golden sandy beaches or dip your feet into the Indian Ocean. Before heading back, treat yourself to a fresh seafood lunch. and then return to Gondwana in the early afternoon with some time to relax before setting off on your evening game drive.

This evening marks your final game drive at Gondwana, and your guides will do their utmost to track down any animals you may not have seen yet. Even sightings of familiar wildlife take on a new meaning now—as you’ve spent time observing their behaviour, perhaps even forming a quiet bond. Each encounter feels more personal, almost like a farewell. Midway through the drive, you’ll pause at one of the reserve’s scenic vantage points to enjoy drinks and light snacks as the African sun dips below the horizon. It’s a moment to savour—reflecting on the beauty of the bush and the memories made. After returning to the lodge, you’ll have time to unwind before dinner. Tonight’s meal will be a bit shorter and more relaxed to allow time for packing and preparing for your journey back to Cape Town the next day—this time via the scenic route through Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of Africa.

While many believe the Cape of Good Hope to be the southernmost point of Africa, it is actually Cape Agulhas that holds that title—marking the true southern tip of the continent. The journey from Gondwana to this iconic landmark is one of scenic beauty and cultural discovery. You’ll begin by heading southwest, with a recommended stop in the small town of Albertinia. Here, the famous Aloe Shop offers a variety of natural herbal creams, oils, and drinks at reasonable prices. Continue on to before taking a turn off the main route and passing through open farmlands, home to the blue crane. As you near your destination, you will pass by Bredasdorp before arriving at Cape Agulhas. This dramatic coastline, where the Indian Ocean meets the Atlantic, is known for its rugged beauty, windswept shores, and a rich diversity of birdlife that flocks to the wetlands. Wander along the rocky beaches scattered with the remains of shipwrecks—reminders of the region’s treacherous maritime history
Hermanus

If you're visiting during whale season (typically June to November), take a leisurely walk along the Hermanus Cliff Path, where southern right whales are often spotted just metres from shore.
