Day 1: Arrival at Kigali International Airport

Upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be greeted and transferred to the Hotel des Mille Collines. This hotel gained fame as a refuge for 1,268 people during the 1994 Rwandan genocide, a storey depicted in the film Hotel Rwanda The hotel has 113 rooms, including eight suites. Each room has amenities such as a bathtub, balcony, cable TV, telephone, minibar, internet access, toiletries, a work desk, wake-up service and voicemail. Some rooms include additional amenities like a dressing gown, ceiling fan, connecting rooms, hairdryer, trouser press and kitchenette. Non-smoking rooms are also available. The hotel was built in 1972, opened its doors in 1974, and underwent renovations in 1987, making it one of the leading hotels in Rwanda with extensive meeting facilities.

Kigali Genocide Memorial

After breakfast, your Gorilla Explorers driver guide will pick you up and start your safari. You will start with a city tour in Kigali city. You will visit the King's Palace and Genocide Memorial, and you will proceed for Akagera National Park located in Northeast of Rwanda, arriving in the evening. The Park is located in the northeast of Rwanda along the border with Tanzania. Although founded in 1934, much of the park was reallocated as farms, and in 1997, the park was reduced in size from more than 2,500 sq km to its current extent of 1,122 sq km. Since 2010, a joint venture with African Parks has seen Akagera return to its former glories. It is named after the Akagera River that flows along its eastern boundary and feeds into a labyrinth of lakes of which the largest is Lake Ihema. The forest-fringed lakes, papyrus swamps, savannah plains, and rolling highlands combine to make Akagera among the most scenic places anywhere in Africa.
Day 3: Morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema

Today, you will enjoy an early morning game drive in Akagera National Park and a boat cruise on Lake Ihema. Early mornings benefit from a tasty breakfast at the lodge before your first exciting morning drive through the Switzerland of Rwanda Par,k which is too clear in the indigenous forest for Gorilla trekking and draws one to the real side of natural beauty. You will be briefed at the park headquarters and later depart for the gorilla trekking experience alongside the ranger guides. Once you find them, you will spend one hour with them taking pictures, and later you will return to the starting point, embark on your vehicle, and drive to the lodge overnight.

After breakfast, you will prepare for their second gorilla trekking adventure, this time visiting a different gorilla family in Uganda. Like Day 5, you will receive a briefing before heading into the National Park with the rangers to find the Gorillas. You will again have one hour with the gorillas upon finding them.
