What you can expect

Akumal Bay has become one of the most important destinations on the Riviera Maya for observing marine life. Enjoy a private activity with a guide, swimming and snorkelling, specifically observing green turtles (Chelonia mydas). Unlike other animal observation activities, here the encounter takes place in a controlled and protected environment, which guarantees both the safety of the visitor and the well-being of the species. This activity is designed for people looking for an authentic experience of contact with nature, based on respect for the ecosystem and the quality of human service.

The tour kicks off with a quick safety talk and some environmental guidance. It's essential to understand that Akumal is a protected natural area, so wearing a life jacket is mandatory at all times to ensure buoyancy and prevent accidental damage to reefs or seagrass. Your guide will explain the minimum distance rules and how to behave so as not to interrupt the turtles' natural feeding cycle. Once equipped, the group enters the water from the beach to start a guided swim through the most frequent sighting areas.

During the trip, you'll be able to observe sea turtles up close in their daily activity. These turtles come to the bay to feed on the grasses that grow on the sandy bottom. Besides turtles, you'll often find manta rays, surgeonfish, sergeant major fish, and sometimes small coral formations that are home to fascinating biodiversity. Visibility is usually excellent thanks to the bay's geography, which protects the area from strong currents, allowing for calm swimming suitable for people with different levels of snorkelling experience.

A key component that sets this proposal apart is the inclusion of a specialised digital photography service. We get that carrying your own cameras can be uncomfortable or distract from the experience itself. That's why the guide or a specialised photographer will capture high-quality images during the tour. This photographic content includes shots of the participant doing the activity, as well as photos of the marine fauna found during the tour. This material is delivered digitally, ensuring that each visitor has a clear and professional visual record of their time in the water.
