What you can expect

This is a tour for anyone who loves knitting, meeting locals, nature and getting a deeper look into Icelandic culture.
Our knitting expert and guide will greet you on arrival and be your guide and mentor throughout your stay.
During your stay your knitting expert will go over traditional knitting patterns, designs and colours of wool. Together you will choose a knitting project that you can work on during your stay. During your stay you will embark on a Northern Light hunt, explore Icelandic nature and meet local handcraft people. You will visit the magnificent Godafoss waterfall and relax in the Geothermal Forest Lagoon. We will take you whale watching and visit a local brewery. You will try local foods and treats and explore Akureyri.
You are welcome to bring your knitting project with you on excursions as your knitting expert will accompany you on all tours.
Itinerary
Day 1 Tuesday: Meet your local knitter and Northern Light hunt
Today you meet your local knitter and guide, who will accompany you for the duration of your stay. She will go over the itinerary and give you a presentation about Icelandic knitting, wool, designs and patterns. Together you will choose a knitting project that you can work on during your stay. You will be taught the basics of knitting, if needed. In the evening, you will be taken on a northern light hunt. We will drive out of Akureyri in search of the lights enjoying information and hot drinks on the way.

Day 2 Wednesday: Goðafoss Waterfall, meet the locals and Forest lagoon spa
Today we begin by visiting the magnificent waterfall, “Goðafoss” where we will explore the waterfall and surroundings. We then visit a local handcraft person. You will see and learn about their handcrafts and get an introduction into the methods and traditions. We end this tour at the geothermal spa, Forest Lagoon. Here you can relax in the pools and sauna before heading back to your hotel.

Day 3 Thursday: Whale watching and Micro Brewery
Today we embark on a whale watching tour. Whales can be sighted in the area all year round and seeing these gentle giants is magnificent. Once back on land you will sample some traditional local foods and treats before heading to the oldest microbrewery in Iceland. At this family run business you will hear and see what it takes to brew beer and taste a variety of their products.

Day 4 Friday: Explore Akureyri and the Christmas house
You will meet with your guide, explore the town of Akureyri and visit the magical Christmas house. Together you will have lunch at a local café and have time for your knitting project.

Day 5 Saturday: Departure Day
Today is your departure day, you spend the day as you wish until your transfer to Akureyri airport.

Price includes: Transport, driver, guide, activities, entrance fees and lunch on excursion days (3 lunches).
Note: Extra wool for bigger projects is not included in price.
You can book this tour as individual passengers but the minimum for this tour is 4 persons.
