What you can expect

Cruise across the tranquil waters of Alta Lake on a sturdy kayak or canoe to scope out the centuries-old log cabins of Rainbow Park. Soak up the views and breathe in the fresh mountain air as you drift along the lake's quiet surface at your own pace.

Head to the tour office in the village or get picked up from your hotel for the quick shuttle out to Alta Lake. Once you're there, take your pick of sturdy kayaks or old-fashioned canoes, grab a life jacket, and set off across the lake's blue waters. Dip your paddle in to glide along at whatever pace you see fit as you absorb the natural beauty of the lake and its evergreen-blanketed surroundings.

Pull up onto shore at Rainbow Park to stretch your legs with a stroll around this historic homestead site, where the Rainbow Lodge once stood. Check out the restored log cabins that date back to the area's earliest settlement days, and then get back in your boat to paddle to the mouth of the River of Golden Dreams. Drift among the flower-topped lilypads before wrapping up your scenic journey and heading back to shore.
