What you can expect

  • Bassano del Grappa is a real gem that will amaze you: the tour begins at the Ponte Vecchio, or Ponte degli Alpini, the city's historic symbol. Of vital economic and military importance, it was often destroyed by wars and floods of the Brenta River and always rebuilt, in stone or wood. In the 16th century, the famous Venetian architect Andrea Palladio was commissioned to carry out yet another reconstruction.

We will continue on a slight uphill slope and you will admire ancient palaces, the remains of the old city walls, the Ezzelini Castle, the Praetorian Palace, Piazza Garibaldi overlooked by the Civic Tower that dominates the entire historic old town, and the Sturm Palace with its splendid collections dedicated to local ceramic production, known for the fineness of the clay, the richness of the decoration, and the brilliance of the glaze.

A must-see stop will be a visit to a historic distillery where you will learn about the history of the most famous Italian spirit: grappa. You will discover its origins, how this distillate of pomace (the grape skins) was produced in the past and how it is produced today, and you will enjoy a guided tasting of grappas.
