We will begin our guided tour of Leuven at Martelarenplein Square, located opposite the train station.
Located in the province of Flemish Brabant, Leuven is one of Belgium’s leading university cities. We will learn about the history of its prestigious educational institution in the University Library Square, whose bell tower is one of the city’s landmarks. We will also pass by other iconic monumental buildings, such as the Rectorate of the Faculty of Education.
We will continue our tour in front of the famous Fountain of Wisdom, located next to the Grote Markt. In this central square, we will admire the façade of Leuven City Hall, a true masterpiece of Brabant Gothic architecture. Right in front of the town hall, we will also be able to see the exterior details of St. Peter’s Cathedral.
Our next stop will be at Oude Markt Square, which is considered “the world’s largest bar counter” due to its extensive range of dining options. Next, we will pass by St. Michael’s Church and St. Anthony’s Chapel, which houses the tomb of Father Damian. Do you know why this figure is so popular? We’ll find out!
