What you can expect

You're invited to time travel in just one street in one hour. The street connects the two Belgrade rivers: Sava and Danube. Historically, it has connected surprisingly diverse communities.

The start is above Sava river, where you'll have a close up of three buildings that marked the rise of Belgrade as the capital of Serbia, reborn after liberation from the Ottomans: the Cathedral, the pub and the Palace of the Princess.

Moving up, you'll watch how the city's life unfolded. The buildings get bigger and more European. You'll meet the well to do of Belgrade from 1850ies to 1930ies through the facades of their properties. Learn the tastes of the times: from academic historical styles to art nouveau and Art Deco.

Along the way, we come across an interesting pattern break! Find out who were the unexpected builders and innovators at the turn of the centuries.

To dive into more distant past, we stroll further towards the Danube river. This is where the foreign communities lived. Those of the conquerors, like Ottoman or Habsburg Empires, or the merchants settling along the trade routes, like those from Dubrovnik or Greece, or those historically seeking safer environments, like Jews.

Here you'll have a unique opportunity to witness the multicultural Belgrade: the places and symbols of Christianity, Islam and Judaism placed in a proximity that is rarely found. The Jewish community municipality stands just a corner away from the Mosque, both of them mere 800m from the Belgrade Cathedral.

Besides connecting the dots of cultural history, we'll keep your eyes open for the contemporary creativity and lifestyle choices. The quarters stemming right and left are rich with galleries, local designers, bistros and artisanal eateries. Great opportunity to complement your cultural history exploration with the look and feel of Belgrade's now.
